THE FLASH Season 5 Premiere Scoop: New Suit, New Villains, Old Secrets

Flash fans, are you as excited for season 5 as we are?
The show returns on Oct. 9 with a new team and a fresh outlook. Gone is last season’s supervillain Devoe, along with Tom Cavanaugh’s latest version of Harry wells. (Cavanaugh will be back this season playing more than one character.) Meanwhile, Hartley Sawyer’s Ralph Dibny is here to stay, and Barry and Iris’ daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy), who dropped by from the future last season to help save the world, is now stuck in our timeline.
With that many superheroes under one roof, you might expect that a new supervillain might be waiting just around the corner. And you’d be right. The premiere marks the first appearance of comic book villain Cicada (played by Chris Klein), who, according to comic book lore gained the the ability to absorb the life-force of others, extending his own life-span in the process. Cicada and his cult followers were dedicated to the murder of every person the Flash ever saved by means of lightning bolt-shaped daggers. Going forward, it will be interesting to see how season 5 navigates this villain’s dark desires and his complicated backstory.
As you may have guessed, we’ve seen the premiere a little early, thanks to our friends at the CW, and have a collection of teasers to share with you. As always, we promise not to reveal major plot points or other big reveals that would spoil your enjoyment of the premiere. That said, we urge you to proceed with a little caution anyway, as occasionally one man’s gentle teaser is another’s great big flaming spoiler.
We take spoilers seriously. If you would like to know more about our spoiler policy, you can read about it here.
Back to Business
Following the whole DeVoe debacle of last season, Barry is officially forgiven, exonerated, and even reinstated as a CSI as this season kicks off. Just as well, seeing as he now has a family to feed!
But Barry’s not the only one struggling to find a way to move on. The premiere episode will feature a forlorn Cisco (he’s still cut up over his breakup with Gypsy) and a troubled Caitlin (who is still wondering if she’ll ever see her alter ego Killer Frost again.)
Meanwhile, Cecille gets a definitive answer to the big question regarding her pregnancy-induced telekinesis meta-power, and Wally has a big life changing decision to make.
