Following a Major Event THIS IS US Asks “What Now?”

Recent episodes of NBC’s This is Us have been pulling at our heartstrings a little harder of late, making the excuse that we’ve all got something in our eye a little less plausible with each passing week.
Following on from the heartbreaking “Memphis,” the show returns on Tuesday March 7 with “What Now?” — a question we’ve been asking ourselves ever since Randall and William’s trip to Memphis opened up a world of joy and pain for Randall.
While the trip saw Randall discover cousins, second cousins, and a host of other family relations (“everyone gets a cousin!”) he so desperately craved his entire life, it also marked the end of his father’s cancer journey.
Planned meticulously, William’s cathartic trip down memory lane ended in a Memphis hospital, where it was revealed, he had always intended to die.
“The two best things in my life were the person at the very beginning and the person at the very end,” William told Randall in parting words show creator Dan Fogelman warned fans will would “blow you away.”
He was right. They did.
So what is next for Randall, Beth and the kids, and the extended Pearson family? Let’s not forget that the last time we checked in on Jack and Rebecca, things were not going so well. Petty jealousy (or genuine alarmed concern in Jack’s opinion) had driven a wedge between this once happy couple, on the eve of Rebecca’s big tour. What’s more, Jack had taken to drinking again, and in doing so, had broken a huge promise to his wife.
NBC teases that Wednesday’s episode will see the entire Pearson family gather at Randall’s for an unusual party — which we’re guessing will be to commemorate his father in some way.
Meanwhile, we’ll see Kevin and Sophie’s relationship deepens on the night of his play’s premiere, and while Kate struggles to open up to Toby about her father’s death, in the past tensions remain high between Jack and Rebecca as she leaves on tour with her band.
We’ve got an exclusive sneak peek clip of that tension on display, below, as Jack arrives home late just as Rebecca is about to take off. Bonding over Kevin’s ears (just watch) almost cracks the tension, but then a car toots outside and it’s time for Rebecca to leave.
“What Now?” airs Tuesday, March 7 at 9 pm ET/PT on NBC.
