EA recently announced that Mass Effect 3 was delayed until early 2012. The delay has fueled speculation that the final installment in the Mass Effect trilogy may feature a cooperative mode for up to four players. Although neither developers Bioware or publishers EA have substantiated the rumour, they are keen on the idea of multiplayer.
“The short answer is we have no comment on that. But we’re interested in the idea of multiplayer,” BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka told Eurogamer magazine at E3.
The rumours persist. It has been suggested that the four-player co-op mode is a stand-alone feature that will not compromise the single player aspect of the game in any way.
“The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations,” said Mass Effect’s executive producer Casey Hudson at E3 recently.
Back in may EA announced that Warner Bros had acquired the rights to a Mass Effect film, with executive producer Casey Hudson, and both Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck from BioWare serving as the movie’s executive producers. The producers are in negotiations with screenwriter Mark Protosevich about penning a script. Protosevich is currently rumoured to be exploring the possibility of rebooting the Jurassic Park franchise with Steven Spielberg.
