If you were hoping to remain unspoiled over the fate of Hawkins’ beloved chief Hopper (David Harbour) then we’re sorry to relate the following: Hop is alive and (maybe) well following his brave sacrifice at the end of Netflix’s Stranger Things third season.
Although we couldn’t imagine a fourth season without Hopper anyway, Netflix has confirmed he is definitively alive via a new teaser trailer which hit the web this morning.
The 50 second clip sees a Russian gulag-style scene in the snow with prisoners working on building a railroad (where is that thing going?). As we take in the scene, and pan over the freezing work crew, one prisoner takes a moment to pull off his hat and wipe his brow.
The famous stache may be missing, along with a head of hair, but there is no doubt as to the identity of this man.
Speaking of the upcoming fourth season, show creators the Duffer Brothers had the following to say:
“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our American; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything….”
While there is no official premiere date for the fourth season just yet, if the show follows its pattern of holiday-timed releases, we may be looking at December 2020.
The Duffers added “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime –- pray for the American.”
