Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin’s popular superhero anthology series Wild Cards is being developed for a big screen release by SyFy Films, the theatrical partnership between SyFy and Universal. Martin edited the long-lived series of books and stories which began in 1987 and is now on its 22nd volume, as well as being one of its creators and writers. Melinda Snodgrass, who co-created and co-authored the series, will be writing the script for the movie, Martin revealed yesterday in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Wild Cards is a shared universe of stories that has showcased many of science fiction’s most talented writers over the last several decades. The richly developed characters and plots provide ample material for a theatrical release, which Martin says he hopes will lead to more films or even a television series in the future.
