The final NYCC Saturday major panel presentation belonged to Marvel’s Iron Fist — with a couple of surprises.

The Netflix series just wrapped production on its first season and fans were treated to exclusive clips and a teaser trailer on the Main Stage.

Iron Fist centers on billionaire Danny Rand–who returns to NYC after having vanished as a kid– with special new fighting skills/skillset.

Jeph Loeb, Executive Vice President of Marvel TV, moderated the panel. Loeb kicked things off with a sizzle reel showcasing Netflix’s existing Marvel franchises including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and of course Iron Fist. The clip drew enthusiastic cheers and screams from the crowd. In addition, they also showed five never-before seen clips from the show.

The First scene showed Danny returning home to New York City looking a bit disheveled and going into his family’s Fortune 500 company. Danny mentions who he is to the secretary, who isn’t having any of it and sends for security to escort Danny out. However Danny turns the tables on them when he successfully subdues them with his martial arts moves.

The second teaser shown was a heated exchange between the childhood friends, the Meachum siblings and Danny. The Meachums are not too happy to see him alive since they took over his dad’s company. Danny retorts back that he’ll do whatever it takes to get back his father’s company and has “Hogarth” on his side. The mention of Jeri Hogarth elicited cheers from the audience. Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) will indeed be crossing over to Iron Fist soon.

The third clip consisted of a type of action scene that’s become an anticipated staple of the Marvel/Netflix shows — the hallway fight scene. Danny hears Joy being abducted and goes outside to see that she’s been kidnapped by men brandishing hatchets. Danny takes them down in a very fluid mention (his fight stance got cheers) without breaking a sweat, and even dodges a small hatchet thrown at him. And just as he’s about to rescue her from men, the clip cuts short.

Another clip shown was of Colleen Wing, an ally of Rand, in a ring being challenged to fight two big, burly guys. Wing manages to subdue them within minutes and ends up breaking one of the guys arm and let’s just say the scene ends with some blood splatter.

The final clip was a bit more subdued in that Danny, who appeared drugged/groggy, is visited by Harold Meachum. Meachum questions Danny on where he’s been. He presses Danny for more information, who then confesses he has a duty to destroy the Hand (referenced in Daredevil season one) and he’s the only one that can stop them.

A major villain Revealed

The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal made a surprise appearance where he revealed The Punisher Netflix series will begin filming on Monday. He also put out the news that Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page from Daredevil) will be crossing over into The Punisher’s second season.

And if that wasn’t enough, Jones told Loeb he needed to bring some “friends” out on stage, which drew thunderous applause and screams when Charlie Cox (Daredevil/Matt Murdock), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) came onstage as The Defenders teaser music Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.”

Loeb also wanted to drop one huge Defenders bombshell in the form of Sigourney Weaver. Weaver came onstage to thunderous applause and the reveal that she will portray the main antagonist in the upcoming Netflix series.

No further specific details about her character have been released just yet.
