Benicio Del Toro is expected to be offered the role of the villain in JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie, according to an article in Variety. It has been known for some time that the original cast would be reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel, which is planned to begin production by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions in early 2012, but up until now the villain has remained a mystery. In fact, it appears that Abrams has not even told Del Toro much about the role in their discussions.

Fans will almost certainly want to speculate on the race of the new villain. After having had a Romulan (Eric Bana) as the first movie’s antagonist, is it likely that the producers will put Del Toro in Klingon make-up for the new film? Stay tuned for more details as they develop!
