We don’t often get a nudge from the BBC on a Sunday afternoon telling us to go look at their latest press room photo, so we decided we should. Hurriedly. And we weren’t disappointed.
The image, discussed, dissected and in some corners, hotly debated, for some weeks now, depicts the 13th Time Lord. And yes, as many guessed, she’s a woman.
Actress Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) will officially take over from Peter Capaldi as the Doctor in the BBC’s long running series Doctor Who.
Capaldi, who has filled the role since 2013, will return in the 2017 Christmas special for one final adventure.
“It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor,” Whittaker told the BBC in a statement earlier today. “It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
