It’s official. Java indie hit Minecraft has just surpassed its 10 millionth registration. The sandbox construction game, created by Markus Persson, centers around building structures in a 3D environment by creating or destroying different types of blocks. The game is free to download and play, although players can buy a beta version of the game to access multiplayer mode and receive regular updates.
Despite still being in beta status, with no ‘finished’ product on the market as yet, the java game has received positive praise from critics and has sold over 2.5 million units.
Of the now 10,150,486 registered users, 26.68% (2,708,770 people) bought the game.
Ongoing updates, bug fixes and additional new levels have not hampered the game’s ambitions. Minecraft is set to be released on several other platforms including Android, iOS and Xbox 360. The Xbox version will support kinect play.
