New GOTHAM Trailer: Is You Is, Or Is You Ain’t My Joker?

This new teaser trailer for Gotham’s mid-season return is choc full of teasers including a blink and you’ll miss it look at Bruce in full Batman garb (in what may be a Poison Ivy-induced hallucination), a glimpse of Alexander Siddig’s Ra’s al Ghul and finally, the emergence of The Joker.
There’s a lot of the always excellent Cameron Monaghan on display here, despite executive producer Bruno Heller’s stance that Jerome’s storyline up to this point has merely been the beginning of the Joker mythology. (Heller has famously refused to admit Jerome is in fact the Joker.)
Adding fuel to the fire are David Mazouz’s most recent comments on the identity of the famed villain.
“(Jerome)’s not the Joker,” Mazouz recently told The Mutuals podcast. “That’s all I’m saying. He’s definitely the inspiration for the Joker and the way that the Joker comes into the show is one of the most brilliant things Gotham has ever done.”
Is you is, or is you ain’t my Joker? Time will tell, we guess, but if the Joker turns out to be someone other than the scene stealing Cameron Monaghan the show will need to dazzle us with a raw powerhouse of talent in order to make us forget this actor’s stellar turn over the course of several seasons.
And that’s all we’re saying about that.
Meanwhile, Crystal Reed’s Sofia Falcone continues her mission to take over the city, rubbing both Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and frenemy Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) up the wrong way in the process.
There’s also a shot of newly consolidated pals Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) and Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), who we hope have more to do in the latter half of the season than squabble over how to be better villains and better friends.
Notably absent is Corey Michael Smith’s Nygma (who we last saw grappling with his Riddler persona), and Donal Logue’s Harvey Dent, (who resigned his commission). Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is briefly seen in his new digs at Arkham, and appears to be settling in well. Again.
Gotham returns Thursday, March 1 on FOX.
