THIS IS US Chooses Brotherhood as its Theme of the Week

While NBC’s This is Us is perhaps at its best while exploring the minutiae of ordinary life, every once and again it throws up something big, like Jack’s death, or Kate’s pregnancy, that shakes the bedrock of the show’s structure.
“Brothers” is such an episode.
A clever title misdirects the audience from the true nature of the hour, while comic relief comes in the form of Toby’s reaction to Kate’s pregnancy news.
And while Deja begins crushing on The Manny, a pregnant Kate is suddenly a narky, hormonal Kate, who thinks nothing of yelling “Screw you, Madison” to her perky, thin, weight-loss group nemesis.
We’ve seen the episode a little early, thanks to our friends at NBC, and have a collection of teasers for you.
As always we avoid character and plot point reveals that might ruin the live experience for you. That said, we urge you to proceed with just a little dash of caution anyway, as one man’s teaser can occasionally be seen as another man’s great big flaming spoiler.
A Brother’s Bond
The action kicks off this week with Jack organizing a weekend camping trip that covertly masquerades as an opportunity to encourage young Kevin to bond with Randall. However Kevin’s continued meanness to Randall earns him a time-out during which he is left to consider his cruel behavior.
The episode reflects Kevin and Randall’s adult relationship in which, while drunk at a gala, Kevin admonishes Randall’s determination to see a personal problem through to the end.
“You care too much, feel too much,” Kevin tells Randall. “See, I try not to feel anything at all.”
However Kevin’s inability to recognize and understand his inner self soon leads to fallout from another source.
