THIS IS US “Katie Girls” Sneak Peek: Randall and Kate Fall Out

Last week’s episode of This is Us left us on a bit of an emotional cliffhanger with Randall (Sterling K. Brown) reeling from Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) previous assertion that she might very well be the only Pearson to “pass on a piece of Dad” to a new generation.
For adopted Randall, who spent most of his life trying to figure out just where he fit in, and never quite managing to do so, Kate’s words were a slap in the face — a slap that came just hours after a friend of his birth father William bluntly reminded him of the fact he would never be “one of us.”
If you’ve been wondering just what Randall might say to Kate then this exclusive sneak peek clip from Tuesday’s “Katie Girls” is for you. A fraught moment between brother and sister takes place in the foyer following Kevin’s (very well received) movie premiere. Randall takes the opportunity to tell Kate he heard about her IVF treatment, but any opportunity for a warm dialogue quicky breaks down when the pair fall out over the thorny issue of adoption vs pregnancy.
Randall is clearly hurt — “So I do or I don’t have a piece of Dad in me?” — but it’s Kate who flies into a rage when he suggests she would rather pay “tens of thousands of dollars for an invasive and dangerous surgery rather than adopt one of the millions of children out there who needs a home.”
“You don’t know what it’s like to want this as badly as I do, and you don’t know what it’s like to lose a baby either,” she tells him just before things get even worse.

“Katie Girls” will see Kate and Toby’s IVF plans stepping up a notch when Kate goes for an egg retrieval procedure. However things take a trippy turn for Kate who finds herself debating the baby issue with her teenage and younger selves while under anesthesia.
The episode airs on Oct. 9 Tuesday (09:00PM – 10:01PM) on NBC.
