AMC has announced that the role of The Governor, one of the most ruthless villains from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel The Walking Dead, will be played by British actor David Morrissey in the next season of the hit television show. The Governor is the leader of Woodbury, an enclave of survivors that hides a horrifying evil which Rick and his people must confront.
Morrissey, who has starred in State of Play and Blackpool but is probably best known to science fiction fans as the actor who portrayed “The Next Doctor” in the 2008 David Tennant Doctor Who Christmas special, seems an unlikely choice for such a monstrous character. It will be interesting to see how the talented Walking Dead makeup department can transform such a pleasant-looking fellow into the face of pure evil.
