TV REVIEW: Suits

This season Suits has put the viewer in an uncomfortable position, one where we must choose between our two children, Team Harvey and Team Mike. When the two went to battle over Gillis Industries, they both sank to new lows, going for the jugular to win. In “I’m Done” we have our dynamic duo back where we want them, Louis is typical Louis, Rachel is weepier than ever, and Jessica may have met her match. Let’s take a look.

Rachel May Faint Again

Did anyone else think another trip to the hospital was coming for Rachel? She was in full panic, guilt, sad-face mode all episode. The consequences of kissing Logan came down on her when she didn’t take Donna’s advice to bury it. Mike has been fired, but he’s making the best of it by making the one awesome thing he can cook, spaghetti sauce. He’s in a great mood because he’s decided all he needs is love. He’s turned down the Forstman million dollar offer, and he’s in love. All this sweet talk makes Rachel come clean admitting that “Logan and I kissed. We were just talking and…” Our tongues collided? She says she’s sorry and “It didn’t mean anything.” Mike storms off. One guess at where he’s heading.

He goes straight to Logan’s house where they can fight it out over Rachel. You know Logan’s going to aim low and he does, hitting below the belt with “She didn’t just like it, she loved it.” The fight’s a draw with both a little battered.

When Rachel goes to work the next day, Mike is waiting for her. He demands to know what happened. “Did it mean something or not?” Rachel says, “It meant something when it happened, but now…” Mike says, “We’re done!” and storms off again.

Weepy Rachel is crying in the copy room with Louis comforting her and giving her some advice. He unloads some Litt-wisdom saying, “When two people love each other, no problem is insurmountable.”

Rachel calls bullshit, citing the Sheila/Louis split as proof that love does not conquer all.

Louis changes strategies telling her that “you have so much going for you.” Thank God he didn’t add “there are plenty of fish in the sea” or “you have a great personality.” I feel like he’s already got those printed on mugs in his office.

Rachel definitely has some thinking to do. She declares her undying love for Mike, but she really did seem to like the kiss with Logan as it was happening.

Louis Picks the Prize

Jessica goes to Louis saying she and Harvey are proud parents with how he handled Forstman. He answers with typical Litt, “I’m impressed that you understand how impressive it was.” She says he gets to pick his reward. Louis immediately goes with wanting to be a named partner, with his name on the door. She says try again. He enlists Katrina’s help in crafting a prize worthy of his epic win.

Louis finally decides on amending his contract to allow for telecommuting whenever he deems it appropriate, a month’s more vacation, and his partnership protected. He admits he’s going to win Sheila back and he’ll need these things in his arsenal.

Jessica says just because named partner isn’t happening now doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen. Way to string our Litt-man along, Jess.

Harvey Tries to Save the Day

Harvey does everything he can think of to help out Mike, even going to John Sidwell to get his young protege’s job back. John’s not biting, saying “If you think he’s so great, take him back there with you.”

Harvey tries that next. He talks to Jessica who shoots down the Mike rehiring with “This is not a conversation I ever want to have” adding that she sleeps better with Mike gone.

Meanwhile, Donna approaches Harvey, asking him to talk to Mike about the whole Rachel cheating thing. Harvey says there is no way he’s getting in the middle of that, apparently relationship coach not on the resume. He adds that if he did get involved, “it sure as shit wouldn’t be to defend her.”

He second-guesses himself later and does have “the talk” with Mike telling him “I admire what you have with Rachel. It’s real. I think you should go home.”

Logan Gets Dumped – Twice

Rachel finds Logan in her office thinking that he’s just had another win. He says, “You told him because deep down inside you want to be with me and you knew this would make it happen.” Rachel denies it, saying, “There is no us. There will never be an us. We’re done.”

Later, Harvey lands the fatal blow telling Logan that he’s signing papers at 8 a.m. and then he’ll be gone by 8:01. Donna watches the dumping, looking mightily impressed. Hmmm, flowers for Donna a couple of weeks ago when she performed in that play, now berating Logan in front of the red head. Let’s hope a love blast from the past could be coming our way.

Jessica and Jeff Sitting in a Tree

Jeff is furious to discover that Jessica is the one who ordered Louis to check on his work. He confronts his boss saying they should keep things strictly professional from now on. In a very un-Jessica like move, she apologizes to him (as much as she can without using the S word). She says, “I don’t want to lose you over some stupid work bullshit.” Jeff forgives her but warns, “Please don’t do stupid work bullshit.”

Someone who can go toe to toe with boss lady without backing down may just be the thing to loosen up the buttoned up lawyer. Here’s for more Jessica happiness and loose buttons.

Louis Gets a Prize Re-do

Louis goes to Forstman to get some final papers signed in the Gillis deal. The billionaire is the one with something up his sleeve telling Litt that he needs a guarantee that the illegal ‘avoiding taxes maneuvering’ will remain their little secret. He gives Louis money for the deal ensuring that both their hands are dirty.

As Louis leaves, he runs into Mike who’s going to accept the Forstman job offer. Louis says no way you are working with Satan himself. He’s got an idea.

He gets Jessica and Harvey in the conference room telling them he wants to retract his last reward. Instead, he wants Mike back and has already offered him a job. Harvey says, “It’s a great choice. I’m proud of you.” Jessica is left stunned, but agreeing to the reward because Harvey points out that Litt will figure out Mike’s secret if she refuses. Looks like some sleepless nights are ahead, Jessica.

Rachel and Mike Not Sitting in a Tree

Mike takes Harvey’s advice and goes home for a little while. Rachel is hopeful saying, “You’re home.” Mike says it’s only for a few minutes while he gets some of his things together. He needs to stay somewhere else for a while. Mike may be backtracking a little on the “we’re done” statement, leaving a little opening for a future reconciliation.

He’ll be back at Pearson Spector in the morning, making for some awkward work encounters.

What did you think of “We’re Done”?

Will Mike and Rachel find their way back to each other? Is Jeff man enough to handle Jessica? Will Harvey finally get a little love this season? Are we done with Forstman or is he gearing up for a fresh attack?

Suits airs Wednesdays on USA Network at 9:00 pm.

Best Lines of the Night:

Louis quoting the “Bible”… “Let any man judge me, so says the good book…I think I know what the goddamn good book says!”

Louis to a waiter, “Hey, jerk off. Who do I have to blow to get some more nuts?”

Katrina reassuring Louis with, “You’re not horrible. You’re Harvey.”

Harvey says to Mike, “All I am to you anymore is a clean set of sheets.”

Forstman tells Louis to take his deal or “go back to writing in your diary about what a loser Harvey Specter thinks you are.”
