Bones Cast Reacts to Last Night's Death Shocker

If you tuned into night’s episode of Bones then you were probably as shocked as we were at the sudden and violent death of one of the show’s core characters. (Please be aware of spoilers in this report if you haven’t seen the episode yet.)

Viewers were shocked to see Sweets (John Francis Daley) shot to death in last night’s season 10 premiere “The Conspiracy in the Corpse.”

However, explained show runner Stephen Nathan, having Sweets stick around this season was not something that was going to be on the cards anyway.

The actor is currently in Georgia, co-directing a reboot of National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise alongside writing partner Jonathan M. Goldstein.

Given Daley’s busy schedule, a sudden death and the most personal murder case yet for the Jeffersonians seemed a more creative way for this character to go out, over having to write their way around his absence over many episodes this season, according to the executive producer.

Sweets’ death was made all the more poignant by the news that he and Daisy were expecting a child. The future, for this character at least, seemed bright, making his murder all the more shocking.

We’ll be chatting with Nathan next week about what’s next for the team this season, so stay tuned for more details from ScreenSpy.

In the meantime we’ve got some reactions from the cast to last night’s shooting below.

Bones continues Thursdays on FOX.
