The 'American Idol' Reboot Has Just Announced Its Newest Judge

The reboot of “American Idol,” one of the first American live singing competition shows, is in full swing. In addition to Katy Perry’s announcement as one of the judges of the show, country singer Luke Bryan has now been confirmed to join the pop star in the judge’s table.
Back in May, it was announced that “American Idol,” after spanning 15 seasons, is coming back to ABC—the singing competition’s new home network. Shortly after, Katy Perry was brought in to be a part of the judges. Perry will rake in a hefty amount of $25 million for being a judge on “American Idol.” Now it looks like the wait for the show’s return is re-ignited as Luke Bryan finally steps in.

‘American Idol’ reboot welcomes Luke Bryan

The news of Bryan’s involvement was reported by Variety. This comes a week before the auditions for “American Idol” begins. Bryan has been very active in the country music scene, having released a total of five albums since 2007. His last three albums debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. Bryan will also be honored as “Artist of the Year” during the CMT Music Awards on October 18.
Three judges are needed for the show once it premieres, meaning only one seat is left vacant. Among the running for the final seat are Charlie Puth, Keith Urban, and Lionel Richie. However, Richie, who was previously undergoing talks to join the show, is no longer in the running according to TMZ. Puth and Urban are also very unlikely to make it to the judge’s seat as well.
Those looking for the original members of the show will be delighted to hear that host Ryan Seacrest will be back as well. During this week’s iHeartRadio Music Festival, Seacrest told reporters that an update on the “American Idol” judges is “expected imminently.”
“American Idol” is set to premiere in early March. Auditions will start next week.
