TV REVIEW: True Blood Season 7 Episode 7 “May Be the Last Time” Review

Imagine your Mom, Dad, or little sibling walking in right in the middle of you watching True Blood, volume to 100, shirtless and pantless, everything transpiring on screen. HAHA, I just got a great laugh at imagining you guys freaking out. If there’s one thing True Blood hasn’t deprived us on it’s naked bodies rolling around. And boy did Sunday deliver.

Were coming down to the wire here and this season is just starting to heat up. If there’s anything Sunday’s episode, “May Be the Last Time,” gave us it’s the notion that our characters are stronger than ever and maybe there’s a little bit of hope at the end of the coffin (except for Adilyn and Wade, they’re screwed).

After tracking down a now Hep-V-free Amber Newlin, Eric, Pam, and the Yakuza men were honing down on Sarah/Newme’s location. Unfortunately, Amber was overly grateful to her sister for saving her life and wouldn’t divulge an ounce of information into Sarah’s whereabouts. After playing into Amber’s emotions and failing, Eric decided to take matters into his own, very angry hands. RIP Amber Newlin.

The Yakuza were not impressed with Eric’s display and demanded his loyalty. Thankfully, Amber had spilled the beans on Sarah being the one and only cure for Hep-V. The Yakuza insisted that Eric become the poster boy for the new form of mass marketed blood made from Sarah herself. Eric only agreed to help them on his own terms; the men had tracked down a hallucinating Sarah, as ghosts of Jason, her dead Buddhist lover, and even Steve convinced her that tonight was her night to die. The sounding of a bunch of cars out of a Fast and Furious movie signaled her worst fears.

In Bon Temps, Bill’s condition was grave. Not because he looked worse, but because the audience was once again subjected to one of his snooze fest flashbacks of his life as a human, before he married his wife. Sookie was determined to find a cure and her first attempt was calling on the flawless Dr. Ludwig, who pulled into Bon Temps in her massive, tricked out, Hummer. The supernatural almanac of a doctor couldn’t figure out why Bill was progressing so quickly. It wasn’t until Sookie mentioned her fairy heritage did the good doctor give some insight and it wasn’t good; Dr. Ludwig freaked out and peaced out when Sookie mentioned her great-grandfather times a thousand, Niall.

Although Dr. Ludwig hadn’t been of much help, the mention of her fairy granddad did spark and idea. She called upon Niall, hoping his magic would help cure Bill. Niall finally showed, insisting on food over helping Bill. Accordingly, he had confessed to seeing everything Sookie had been doing, even looking over her when she fed her infected blood to Bill. Niall’s only help was fairy jumping into Bill’s human flashbacks and seeing the day his first daughter was born. What Niall called a miracle to see, Sookie called a great big bore. He insisted that birth, life, and even death were a miracle and he could not, in fact, help Bill. His death was to be a natural miracle in his eyes.

Another familiar face had made an appearance in town as Hoyt had returned with his gorgeous new girlfriend. Jason struggled as he watched his former best friend introduce himself. It wasn’t clear if Jason was sad over not being able to really be there for his friend in his time of grief or if he just wanted to get Hoyt’s girl into bed.

Violet’s insistence on giving Adilyn and Wade a safe haven only turned into an awkward scene as Violet showed the two teenagers her very elaborate sex dungeon and confessed to incest. She left the two to explore each other while she slept and patiently waited to murder them.

It was a night for feeling frisky as just down the way Arlene was snoozing, dreaming of a very graphic and hot night with the vampire Keith. It was out of Arlene’s comfort zone and freaked her out, but seemed to have a profound impact on her as she gave Sam a very poignant speech the next day about finding happiness. She drank away her sorrows only for Keith to find her the next night. Arlene’s Hep-V positive status prevented the duo from doing the deed in real life, but their heartwarming dancing made up for it all.

Finally, Sookie was left to accept Bill’s fate. She would spend the last days with him giving him lots and lots of fairy-vampire sex.

Quick Thoughts:

  • “I used to f*ck my brother too…a lot” – Violet. If you ever wondered just how messed up this vampire was, here was the answer.
  • I don’t think anyone would mind Eric becoming the Jenny Craig promo boy of the vampire world. As long as he’s alive.
  • Andy and Holly’s moment by the water was sweet. Maybe they can get the hell out of Bon Temps along with everyone else.
  • There were no Lafayette/James scenes and it was the worst. Instead we got a half a second of Lafayette and Lettie Mae digging like mad men in the yard of Tara’s childhood home.
  • How much do you love Keith?
  • Did you get a good nap in during Bill’s hallucinations?
