Chuku Modu Won't Return for 'The Good Doctor' Season 2

After a massively successful first season of ABC’s “The Good Doctor,” it was only a matter of time before the series was renewed for a second season. And now that the show is gearing up for the next season, a few cast members were recently promoted to series regulars. However, one good doctor won’t be returning—Chuku Modu’s Dr. Jared Kalu.

According to Deadline, Modu will not be returning for a role in “The Good Doctor” Season 2. This makes sense, however, because Jared is only hanging on to his job because of how he fought for it the wrong way in an episode titled “Islands Part Two.” Because of this, Dr. Marcus Andrews (Hill Harper) stressed how much he was disappointed at Jared’s loss of integrity for misrepresenting racism for something that it’s not.

Jared’s career plummeted in “Sacrifice,” where Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) experienced sexual harassment from Dr. Coyle. Jared was dating Claire that time and confronted Coyle by assaulting him, leading Dr. Andrews to fire him. Since then, it’s been widely mentioned in the show that Jared’s time at the St. Bonaventure hospital will be ending soon. Thanks to Dr. Morgan Reznick (Fiona Gubelmann), Jared is now moving to a hospital in Colorado.

Meanwhile, the show is promoting recurring cast members Will Yun Lee, Gubelmann, and Paige Spara to series regulars. Lee plays Alex, a former cop who is now a part of Dr. Neil Melendez’s (Nicholas Gonzalez) surgical team at the Bonaventure. Gubelmann plays Morgan, a cocky but smart competition to Freddie Highmore’s Dr. Shaun Murphy. Spara, on the other hand, plays Lea, Shaun’s girlfriend. Lea took Shaun on a soul-searching road trip that lasted for two episodes, with Lea eventually moving to Hershey, Pennsylvania.

With “The Good Doctor” Season 2 coming along, it’s exciting to see the three actors return for yet another emotional season of ABC’s breakout show. Not much is known as for its premiere date, but it could very well return during the Fall TV season.
