'Grey's Anatomy' Seals The Goodbye With Sarah Drew And Jessica Capshaw

“Grey’s Anatomy” will be bidding farewell to two of its most beloved characters in the Season 14 finale. Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw are set to take the permanent exit out the ABC show. Along with them goes the interesting storylines of Dr. April Kepner and Dr. Arizona Robbins. “Grey’s Anatomy” has had tormenting and heartbreaking goodbyes over the years but this has got to take the cake.

The second and third goodbye

Arizona Robbins received praise over her representation of the LGBTQ community as a regular in “Grey’s Anatomy.” Capshaw, along with Sara Ramirez as Callie, graced the world with one of the first Lesbian weddings on broadcast TV.
Capshaw took to Twitter to respond to her and Arizona’s upcoming exit. She said, “… Her impact on the world is permanent and forever. Forever. I am grateful that I have gotten to bring her to life and for the life that she has brought me. I am sad to see her go but I am consoled by the idea that she will continue to live on and on in all of our consciences and imaginations.”

Sarah Drew, on the other hand, seems to be just as shocked as everybody else. On her Twitter, she admitted that she only knew about April’s goodbye to “Grey’s Anatomy” 48 hours before the world knew. April was a unique character on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Despite being a woman of science, she struggled to hold fast to her faith.
Like Capshaw, Drew tweeted out what was on her mind. She said,”…I’m sad too. I haven’t [really] had the time to process this information. I’ve been with it for less than 48 hours, so I’m not ready to say my thank yous and give an all-encompassing statement about my nine years here. That will come later. For now, I’d like to say: I love you, and I love April, and her story isn’t over yet.”

Fans are already mourning around the world, but executive producer and co-showrunner Krista Vernoff said in a statement that it was a creative decision. It’s not some sort of pay cut as some are suggesting. In an interview with Deadline, she said, “The characters of Arizona and April are permanently woven into the fabric of Grey’s Anatomy thanks to the extraordinary work of Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew. As writers, our job is to follow the stories where they want to go, and sometimes that means saying goodbye to characters we love.”
No details were said about how “Grey’s Anatomy” will build up for the exit of Arizona and April. Capshaw and Drew are now the second and third series regulars to leave the show.
