'How To Get Away With Murder' Season 4, Episode 3 'It's For The Greater Good' Recap: Annalise Moves On And Wins [SPOILERS]

Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) is back in court again in this week’s episode of “How to Get Away with Murder.” For Annalise’s second case back into the game, she takes on a reformed gang member accused of killing his fiance. Meanwhile, the rest of the Keating 4 are dealing with their own baggage. Laurel (Karla Souza) tries to convince Michaela (Aja Naomi King) to dig into her father’s account to prove he was behind Wes’ death. Connor (Jack Falahee), on the other hand, has decided to drop out of law school.

‘How to Get Away with Murder’ Annalise Back In Court

We were first introduced to Annalise as this amazing lawyer who always wins her case. But as the season progresses we see the cracks of her life. From losing her cheating husband, accused of murder, and losing her license. It’s great to see her finally back at the game and winning. She is broke and trying to get as many cases she can, she volunteers to take a case at the Public Defender’s office.  She was given Ben Carter’s case, a Latino man wrongly convicted for the death of his fiance Kim.

Annalise takes the case seeing that Ben was another victim of the system, a man judged by the jury for his looks and ethnic background. Ben was accused of pushing his fiance (who’s suffering from postpartum depression) out of a window causing her death. He told Annalise he and Kim had a confrontation about their daughter Madison, who was not really his daughter. He swears it was not motive and it was a suicide. But the lack of evidence is not helping her case—especially when Nate (Billy Brown) and Bonnie (Liza Weil) are working for the District Attorney’s office. The two decide to take Oliver upon his hacking offer. He was able to hack into Annalise’s phone and found a deleted recording of her conversation with Ben regarding his confrontation with Kim. Nate reveals the information from the recording to the opposing side.

Annalise confronts Nate and Bonnie telling them to put aside whatever personal issues they have with her. It resulted in a heated argument between Bonnie and Annalise. Nate came between the two before it got violent. To top it all off, the Public Defense office wants her off the case and her former Client Jasmine was found dead. It’s not a good week for Annalise.

Frank Swoops In and Saves Annalise

Despite everyone being cold and resenting towards Annalise, Frank (Charlie Weber) remains loyal towards her. Frank was the reason Annalise lost her child, so it’s hard for her to forgive her former employee. Frank still wants to help the woman who saved him from any further jail time. In the previous episode of “How to Get Away with Murder,” Frank gave her new evidence to help her win Jasmine’s case.  He does it again for Annalise’s case with Ben.

He sends her a footage of Ben’s fiance jumping out of the window. Annalise calls Frank about the evidence he brought her. It looks like she is slowly warming up to him by letting him in and letting him help her out. The next day she is back in court to present the new found footage and how it as not placed into evidence during Ben’s first trial. Annalise calls out the Chief Defender of the Public Defender’s office (who was also Ben’s first lawyer) to the stand.
There she probes her about the video footage and how she forced Ben to write an appeal that ended him with serving 12 years in jail, at the same time shocking everyone in the courtroom with the footage of Kim’s suicide. In the end, Annalise wins her case and saves Ben from further injustice, helping him reunite with his daughter.

Catching up with Keating 4

Michaela landed an internship with a prestigious law firm while the others are still struggling to find firms for their Summer Associate. But her first day was nothing but paperwork and getting coffee. She along with the other interns were subjected to Introductory Hazing. They had to prove who knows the law firm better than anyone else through a quiz bee. The winning intern gets to choose the firm’s next partner.
Michaela ended up being the last intern standing. With Laurel looming over her head—and with Laurel’s father murdering Wes—she chooses his company to be the next partner.

Meanwhile, Connor decides to drop out of law school. Asher and Oliver try to convince him that dropping out is a huge mistake. But he refused to listen to his friend’s concerns and decides to use his refunded tuition for booze.
Until his father walks in on a tipsy Connor, maybe they can convince him of his mistake.

Flashforward Reveals Michaela’s Involvement

Pieces are coming together on what will happen in the next 2 and a half months. But it is still unclear. All we know is that Frank, Laurel, and Isaac (Jimmy Smits) are involved. In the last two flashforwards, we see Laurel in the hospital and we learn she lost her child. And then Annalise is nowhere to be found, police are in her hotel room and found a bloody elevator. Time will tell if Annalise was shot again or if it was Laurel’s blood all over the elevator walls.
This week we find a distraught Michaela standing in front of a nursery. Isaac, whose involvement is still unknown, sees her covered in blood. As everyone tries to move on from everything that has happened, it looks like blood is still on their trails.
“How to Get Away with Murder” continues next week with “Was She Ever Good at Her Job?” Thursday, October 19 at 10 PM on ABC.
