'Jane The Virgin' Season 4, Episode 1 'Chapter Sixty-Five' Recap: The Telenovela Drama Continues [SPOILERS]

It’s quite a surprising episode for the premiere episode of the fourth season of “Jane the Virgin.” We last left Jane (Gina Rodriguez) reunited with her first love Adam (Tyler Posey). The first episode of season 4 titled “Chapter Sixty-Five” is taking a new approach in Jane’s narrative with Adam. The show usually starts off with a flashback of Jane’s past, but instead, a female narrator is introduced and tells Adam’s side of things. There are now two narrators in the show—both with different styles of telling a story. Jane’s narrator tells the story like a telenovela while Adam’s narrator tells the story like a comic book.
Meanwhile, Luisa cut Rafael off and Petra is pretending to her sister Anezka to get the hotel back from Luisa. Rogelio is trying to get visitation rights for his child with Darcy. There are a lot of things that went down in “Jane The Virgin” this week.

‘Jane The Virgin’ and ‘Adam The Virgo’

Adam was Jane’s first love. It was that love that both her mother and grandmother did not approve of. Her grandmother saw Adam as a hooligan and a bum trying to make it as an artist. While Xiomara believes Jane was moving way too fast in a new relationship. No one can blame them, to be honest.
The two share the same hopeless romantic view in life. Jane was only 19 when she met Adam. After eight months of dating, the two decided to get engaged so they could live together in California. But on the day of the wedding, Adam called things off leaving Jane brokenhearted. It looks fate is giving them one more shot at love. It was revealed last season Adam was the one who found Michael’s letter which leads him to find Jane again.
After the female narrator introduces Adam, we pick things up right where we left off. Jane and Adam catching up, which included a little skinny dipping in the beach. It would’ve been a nice reunion for the two until Jane’s family decided to meddle into her love life. She and Adam decide to go on an official date. It is later revealed that the reason why Adam called off their wedding was that her mother and grandmother told him to.
Maybe the two can start fresh in the upcoming episodes?

The Love Triangle Returns

Before truly giving Adam a chance, Jane first reevaluates her feelings for Rafael.  She was about to confess her feelings for her baby daddy until Adam appeared out of nowhere. Now that Rafael is cut off from his family’s money and no longer holds any shares from the hotel he is homeless. He decides to crash in at Janes while he and Petra figure a way back in. The situation is a little complicated since Jane is still unsure of her feelings towards Rafael.
When Rafael and Jane go to pick up Petra after a conflict with her twin sister, the tree sit down in the car are forced to address the elephant in the room. Petra asks if Jane is a hundred percent sure she’s over Rafael. Jane answers saying she is not sure. While Rafael sits in the backseat trying to understand the love triangle in the car. Team Jane and Rafael are heavily teased in the episode. From Rafael’s longing stares and shirtless entrances, we are to believe there is still a chance between the two. Especially when Rafael asks Jane if they could talk, she assumes he will tell her how he feels. But when she cancels her date with Adam to see if Rafael feels the same way, things go downhill from there.
Jane finds a glass of wine on the table with a note saying “I’m in the shower.” She gulps down the glass and decides to take a chance. She enters the bathroom and starts to undress when Rafael said he wanted to talk about their son’s trust fund. Embarrassed, Jane tries to quickly to put her clothes back on. Their talk soon turned into an argument when Rafael admitted he took money from Mateo’s trust fund to pay for his school tuition. This infuriates Jane because not only did he disregard her opinion on where she wants Mateo to go to school but Rafael did not consult her.
She later realizes her feelings for Rafael were nothing but comfort and familiarity.Meanwhile, Rafael confesses to Petra he still loves her and he has no lingering feelings for Jane.

Rogelio Takes The High Road While Petra Gets Caught

Rogelio’s ex-wife Darcy is carrying their child but she doesn’t want him to be part of it. Unwilling to take the high road, Rogelio takes the conflict to Instagram. He ended up accidentally showing 3 million of his fans Darcy’s cervix during a checkup. Darcy tells him it was all part of her plan so Rogelio would breach their contract. Saddened that he will not be part of another child’s life. He decides to blackmail Darcy with a video of her punching a puppy.

Xiomara tells him to be there for Darcy and not make her an enemy since Rogelio will be raising the child with Darcy. He then visits Darcy to tell her that he will be there for her and the baby with no ulterior motive.  The two were about to settle their differences until Darcy’s water broke.
Back at the Marbella, Petra is caught in a lie when Luisa finds out she was not Anezka. When Petra was walking back to her suite Luisa thought she was Anezka. Confused at first she caught up quickly when Luisa asked if she was able to put Petra’s body in a storage unit. Hoping she could win back her hotel and Rafael’s shares, she plays along. However, Anezka came back. In a telenovela fashion, “Jane the Virgin” ends with a cliffhanger and we’d all have to wait until the loose threads are tied up.
“Jane the Virgin” returns next week with “Chapter 66,” Friday at 9/10c on The CW.
