'Jane The Virgin' Season 4, Episode 2 'Chapter Sixty-Six' Recap: Alter Egos And A Shocking End [SPOILERS]

There are two sides to everyone’s personality. In “Jane the Virgin” season 4 episode 2, we get to see everyone’s other side. From Jane’s fun-loving beer pong playing chick, Rafael’s sketchy business side to Rogelio as a woman.  Jane’s relationship with Adam helps bring out her fun side. Rogelio faces issues with his co-star. Xo helps take care of Darci to prove that Rogelio is committed to being a father to the baby. Meanwhile, Petra and Rafael work together to buy back the hotel.

After realizing she has no chance to start over with Rafael, Jane decides to give Adam one more chance but wonders if he is the long-term kind of relationship. She has been spending most of her time with Adam shooting beer-pong with his friends and roof basketball. This makes her question if she only has one side when she is with Adam and if Jane the Mom fits into the picture as a couple—because school PTA meetings and nap time doesn’t fit into Adam’s whole lifestyle.
Adam gets a job offer in Los Angeles and asks Jane whether or not she wants him to stay or take the job. After getting locked on the roof while playing roof basketball, the two decide to jump over but Jane has overstepped her fun side. She ended up fracturing her knee which made her miss her meeting with a potential Catholic school for her son. This makes her decision about Adam even harder.
While she’s out and about being the fun Jane at home, she tries to tolerate Rafael. We last left these two having an argument about money. Lately, their screen time has been reduced to only arguing.  Sometimes over text when they are trying to get Mateo to fall asleep. Despite this, the two were able to reach a compromise and a truce.
When Rafael told Jane the plan to fake their address to send Mateo to a good public school came from her Abuela, Jane was able to put things into perspective. Motherhood is her life while Adam’s is this fantasy of who they can be. But Adam wants to prove he can be there for Jane and her son.

The Zen, The Mature, The heartbroken Rafael

We’ve seen Rafael go through a transformation after spending time in jail. He went from the conniving hotel owner to zen Rafael.  But after his sister, Luisa, took his hotel right from under him, Rafael decides to fight dirty again and become who he was again before jail albeit a little bit of a change. He has renounced his player ways with Jane the first time he met her. Now with Petra, they both decide to become a more mature couple especially when it comes to their communication skills.

The two decided to be more transparent with their plans and feelings towards each other, especially with Aneska following Petra until she signs over the hotel. They needed to find an investor willing to invest in the Marbella and kick Luisa out. Rafael went after a newly-single hotel owner while Petra makes a deal with her ex-flame Chuck. Both are uncomfortable with each other’s choices for an investor. The two get into a serious talk about their relationship.
After Rafael turns down sleeping with a potential investor he calls out Petra on her past actions. Her cheating her way to the top. This leaves Petra wondering about her feelings for Rafael. She decided she needed a fresh start in her love life, someone who wouldn’t put her past over her head. This leaves Rafael heartbroken and taking a few swings back to his Season1 character.

Rogelio’s Other Roles

Rogelio’s ex-love Darci looked like she was about to give birth in the last episode. However, it was only stress labor due to working and dealing with Rogelio. Xiomara and Rogelio then decided to offer Darci help especially when the doctor advised her to stay off her feet for a while. But she took it upon herself to boss Rogelio and Xiomara around. Still not giving him a chance to be a part of the baby’s life, Xiomara tries to ease her into it.
As Rogelio tries to win over Darcy to co-parent, he has trouble at work. His spat with his co-star Fabian is making it hard for the two telenovela actors to be on the same set. This prompted the producer to create a focus group on which of the two should be killed off. During the focus group, it looks like the women are swinging over Rogelio but Fabian found a way for his grandmother to be part of the focus group. Unwilling to be killed off in his telenovela, Rogelio played dirty as well. He disguises himself a woman and tries to persuade everyone in the focus group to pick his character to live.

He was successful to get Fabian killed off but karma has a way of biting back. He was able to settle things with Darcy with Xiomara’s help. Xiomara was able to knock sense into Darci about how Rogelio and her will be there for her when the baby comes. But two good things come with a catch—sharing screen time with his arch nemesis, Esteban Santiago.

Someone’s Going to Die This Season

Before the episode ended, Aneska tells Petra she has ways of getting her to sign. Her ways being breaking their crazy mother out of jail. Then right before everything fades out, the Narrator mentions someone is going to die this season. He teased us with a montage of characters who might be killed off.
It could be Petra, Aneska, their mother, Rafael, Luisa or Abuela. Fans are still grieving over the loss of Michael, but “Jane the Virgin” is taking notes from every other telenovela. A character death always shakes things up.
“Jane the Virgin” returns next Friday with “Chapter 67” at 9/10c on The CW.
