Jennifer Lopez In Talks To Take Center Stage In 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show

In addition to the Oscar buzz surrounding her performance on Hustlers, Jennifer Lopez is also now the center of Super Bowl buzz. According to US Weekly, the Hustlers star is currently in negotiations with the National Football League to headline the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

Earlier in July, Lopez admitted that she’s not shying away from the possibility of performing in next year’s Super Bowl halftime show. “Yeah, we’ve thought about the Super Bowl and it’s in Miami, it’s a big deal but we’ll see,” Lopez said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. However, she has left the decision up to the organizers.

Picking the Right Stars for the Super Bowl Stage

Before any speculations of Lopez’s involvement in next year’s Super Bowl even arose, the NFL has already started amassing some star power. Earlier in August, Jay-Z and his entertainment company Roc Nation announced that they have entered a long-term partnership with the NFL as its official Live Music Entertainment Strategists.

With regards to selecting the artists to perform on one of the world’s biggest stages, Jay-Z gave some insight as to how he’ll do it in a press conference. “We had this conversation, you can’t go to a city, plop a showdown and then leave. Like, at least speak to the community,” the rapper said, steering clear of giving away any hints as to who’s in the running for the performance. “Speak to the guys that’s on the ground organizing things and trying to make things better, in that sort of way. Sometimes it may happen and it may wind up that the person is from the city that they perform, but you don’t want to get in that space ’cause then, again, who performs in Tampa?”

If Lopez does indeed get the deal, she’ll be taking center stage in Miami on February 20, 2020. She will be joining the star-studded ranks of A-list Super Bowl alumni such as Prince, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Madonna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Maroon 5.

Lopez has recently wrapped up her successful 30-city It’s My Party tour this summer. And she will soon be seen next on her stripper crime drama Hustlers. The film debuted last week in the Toronto International Film Festival and received raucous applause and high praise from the audience.
