Justin Timberlake In Talks To Perform at the Super Bowl LII Halftime Show

After the controversial wardrobe malfunction incident with Janet Jackson back in 2004, Justin Timberlake is back to redeem himself as he is “finalizing a deal” to perform at the Super Bowl LII halftime show on February 4, 2018. The game will be held at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Justin Timberlake to perform alone in the Super Bowl LII halftime show

This might just be Timberlake’s chance to prove the naysayers wrong after a rather embarrassing set with Jackson. Us Weekly reports that the “Can’t Stop The Feeling” singer was asked to take the stage during the halftime show. The news outfit’s source says that Timberlake is “finalizing the deal” and might be performing alongside rapper JAY-Z. However, according to The Source, the rapper has turned down the offer to follow the footsteps of his wife Beyoncé. Apparently, JAY-Z is voicing out his support for ousted NFL player Colin Kaepernick.
The NFL, on the other hand, hasn’t released an official confirmation. In a statement, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said that there aren’t any confirmed performers—at least for now. “No decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists,” McCarthy said. “Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

JT’s brief (and slightly embarrassing) history in the Super Bowl

During the 2017 Super Bowl, Timberlake went back to his ‘NSYNC roots when he appeared in a commercial with Christopher Walken. The actor did a dramatic reading of the boy band’s hit track “Bye, Bye, Bye.”
But what most people wouldn’t forget is Timberlake’s memorable and embarrassing 2004 halftime show performance with Jackson. It not only caused a worldwide stir but also changed the broadcast rules of the NFL when it comes to the halftime shows. Jackson and Timberlake were performing “Rock Your Body” when towards the end of the song, Timberlake pulled a part of Jackson’s costume off, revealing the singer’s right breast. This prompted a new policy where a five-second broadcast delay was implemented for live performances during the halftime show.
