LeBron James Takes On $153.3M 4-Year Residency Deal with Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James, one of the NBA’s elite players, agrees to a four-year contract worth more than $150 million with the Los Angeles Lakers, James’ newest agency Klutch Sports Group announced Sunday through social media.

As James continues his NBA chapter on the West Coast, he will try to bring the franchise another championship. This is the second time in his career that he leaves his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, as a free agent.

The four-time MVP and 14-time All-Star thanked his home area through his Instagram story saying in an overlapping photo from the Cavaliers’ 2016 NBA title victory parade, “Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible 4 seasons. This will always be home.”

The $153.3 million deal also marks James as the latest superstar to join the Lakers alongside Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Proving that he is a phenomenal player, James leaves his former team as its leader in nearly every major statistical category: points, games played, assists, steals and rebounds.

As James joins the list of NBA legends to play for the Lakers, some are already welcoming him to the family. NBA players from the past and present are also greeting and reacting on Twitter.

James helped the city of Cleveland take home its first championship in 52 years. This makes the Cavaliers become the first team in the NBA finals history to rally from a 3-1 series deficit to win it all.

Currently, LeBron James is the first player in NBA history to lead a postseason in scoring and then switch teams for the following season.

The Lakers have also been trying to acquire Kawhi Leonard, who reportedly is unhappy with the San Antonio Spurs and prefers to play for the Lakers. The players who would play alongside LeBron James remains to be seen.
