‘Legion’ Season 2, Episode 5 ‘Chapter 13’ Recap: Mysteries of a Body [SPOILERS]

Things were a bit different in “Chapter 13” of “Legion.” David (Dan Stevens) was a bit benched in this episode, and the spotlight zeroed in on Lenny (Aubrey Plaza, Farouk (Navid Negahban), and Oliver (Jemaine Clement). But with only two main storylines, the narrative was getting clearer. The Shadow King and his puppet brought a body back to life to fulfill the plan, while Lenny did her best to save herself and help David.

Damsel in Distress

Lenny Busker is now trapped in a trippy, upside down room, after being taken by Division 3. In it, Clark (Hamish Linklater) questions her. She was, as always, jittery and looking a bit out of it. But she answered his questions correctly and even noticed how they were in a room that looked like it was defying the laws of gravity.

But the question on everyone’s mind is, “whose body is that?” Lenny is now a living, breathing, and bleeding piece of flesh as compared to when she was in David’s mind and before that died in a wall. Now, Clark wants to find out how that was possible. Lenny also had memories of her own. She told stories about her alcoholic grandmother, her problematic parents, and her days with a pimp.

When Clark was about to leave, she told Clark that David knew where Farouk’s body was. Then, she babbled on about how she was the victim. How Lenny died in between a wall and how the Shadow King took her mind and played with it. She was just there to get help. She just wanted to talk to David.

Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) visited Lenny next. He was warmer than Clark. After a story about the past, present, and future, Lenny put his memory power to the test. She asked what color her eyes were. He said brown but was partly wrong as her eyes were blue. He said they were brown in her old body. So, he asked whose body she was in now. She didn’t answer and instead said that they should be worried about Farouk’s. She was insisting that she was one of the good guys and that Evil Lenny was a fake.

The road to a body

On a desert road on the astral plane, Oliver drove Farouk to somewhere. While Farouk was enjoying the sun, they talk about their plan with the body. Oliver was worried about it. But Farouk had some wise words to impart. “When you become my age, you’ll realize it’s not about the thing done, it’s about the beauty of the plan.”

Oliver was getting more uncomfortable with the talk of bugs and dirt. But to ease his pain, Farouk said he would experience the greatest sunrise ever.

When they get to their destination, it’s already dark. Oliver starts to dig and eventually end up pulling it out of the ground, while the Shadow King enjoyed his spot of tea.

Oliver picked up a device that looked like a gun, which they took from Division 3. Farouk picked a piece of flesh of the body and put it in the device. They never showed whose body that was. Farouk kissed its hand, closed the coffin, and left.

When the sun came up again, they’re in the car watching two miners come out of a whole. It was Oliver’s turn to give some words of wisdom. When Farouk asked if the idea morality, which Oliver understood as mortality, bothered him, Oliver used atoms from a dead star holding everything together as an analogy. If that was what was happening, then maybe the “the idea of life and death is irrelevant.” Oliver made his question clearer, about killing since they were not human. He believed they were superior, so morality wasn’t a problem. But while Farouk was going on about not worrying, Oliver just saw Melanie is his head. He still had some human part in him. “I’m going to kill you, you know,” he told the Shadow King.

Inside Lenny’s mind

To get a real answer from Lenny, Ptonomy tapped into her consciousness but ended up with a weird and scary sight. First, he was in a house with an old couple. Then, there was blood on fallen flowers. Ptonomy He felt something was wrong. His eyes opened while still in Lenny’s mind, and later, he was asleep in a dark room with a bug crawling into his ear. He woke up in a dark room with a monster even nightmares couldn’t dream of. He came back to reality with his hands around Lenny’s neck but woke up before he could go any further.

Later, Lenny’s alone in the room, now pitch black. She’s resting her head on the table, but when she lifts it up, David is sitting right in front of her. He could read her mind, and it was telling him she was still working for the bad guy. But Lenny insisted she had no choice, he had spiders implanted in her brain.

David was getting answers. She told him Farouk found his body and that he sent her there to say to him. She knew Farouk had secrets of his own and only took Lenny and Oliver out when he “wanted to play.” David started to get jumpy when his memory flashed in Lenny’s mind. He questioned her more about whose body that was. But she didn’t know. She was in her “drawer” one day and then just woke up.

A true snake in “Legion.”

Farouk and Oliver are still in a desert but now out of the car. The Shadow King was unfazed by Oliver’s claim to killing him; the boldness even amused him. Oliver was sure he would end the villain with his words, “Maybe I’ve found your weakness.” Farouk thought Oliver was sly with his hint about the attack on him, calling him “a true snake.” They then get back to work and start to walk towards an abandoned shack.

Around the middle of the episode, it was clear that Oliver’s and Lenny’s stories were happening in different times, Oliver’s before Lenny’s. When David confirmed she was telling the truth, a scared and naked Lenny crawled out of a hole in the desert. It was obvious that she was the body Oliver and Farouk dug up. After all, she did ask the Shadow King for another shot at life. What was still unclear was why Farouk would do it. All Lenny would give was that he had a plan.

Amy’s last moments

A complete and clearer memory of the blood on a flower showed. Amy Haller (Katie Aselton) came back to the show only to meet her end. She was telling a story to her husband, Ben, about her dream. But he just zoned out with a feeling of dread. Then, the armored car Farouk and Oliver have been keeping an eye on end up outside their shack. Ben goes out to see who was knocking at the door while Amy waited scared and ready to fight with a knife.

When she grew impatient, she went to the door and was met with Ben’s Cerveza bottle on the floor with what looked like ash or dust surrounding it. She turned around and saw Oliver washing his hands in their kitchen sink, singing “Happy Birthday.”

Things were brighter now for Lenny. Farouk didn’t find his body. He found hers. The blood on the flowers was Amy’s. Using the device, Oliver put Lenny in Amy’s body. David saw everything through Lenny’s mind. He wants to kill Farouk now more than ever.

“Legion” continues next Tuesday, May 8th, with “Chapter 14” at 10/9c on FX.
