SUITS Review: The Ice Thaws in

By Lewis Richards

The “No Puerdo Hacerlo” episode of Suits wasted no time adding to the drama of the Pearson Specter Litt family by throwing a proverbial spanner in the works in the form of Louis’ sister.

The beautiful Esther first encounters Harvey as he is leaving the building. Harvey wastes no time in using his silver tongue to help her bypass security and then proceeds to relentlessly flirt, even going as far as to playfully offer her breakfast at his place the following morning. No exchange of names necessary. Smooth, Harvey.

While Harvey gets side-tracked, Mike proceeds to his meeting with Robert only to be greeted by Katrina (Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit). After a classic exchange of witty banter between the former colleagues, Katrina tells Mike she has concluded that he is responsible for getting her a job with Robert and wants to thank him. Mike plays down his part, telling her Rachel is responsible. A thankful Katrina directs Mike to the correct conference room for his meeting before leaving.

We soon learn that Esther is in fact Louis’ sister. Esther tells her brother of her divorce from husband Jeffrey and asks him to get the great Harvey Specter on the case. Louis is reluctant at first as Harvey is currently still angry about the purposely leaked details of his salary, and ensuing pay cut, but following a prompt about Harvey understanding the bonds of family from Donna he decides to take a leap of faith.

Mike, having finally reached his destination, finds that a less than satisfactory offer has been made to his clients, one in which the payout in their class action suit could be significantly lower than he feels they deserve. Robert however has already decided that the offer will be accepted, and as he and Mike go head to head on how they should proceed, Robert puts his foot down and dismisses Mike from his office. Ouch! so much for equal partners.

AND THAT IS ALL BEFORE THE TITLES RUN, PEOPLE.

Louis takes Donna’s advice and approaches Harvey, admitting to his would-be friend that it’s a family matter and he can’t let his sister down. Harvey (still unaware the woman whom he met in the lobby is Esther) grudgingly agrees to help Louis — in addition to a promise not to sleep with her. Harvey later reveals to Jessica that he views helping Louis as his chance to get back on track. Has Harvey finally turned a corner in his conflict with Louis?

After Mike convinces Robert to give him a chance to get an increased offer, their meeting with the insurance company backfires. Robert reveals he has gone above Mike’s head and has presented the original offer to their clients anyway. A bold and furious Mike confronts Jessica in her office only to be chopped down to size as he seems to forget who is top of the food chain within Pearson Specter Litt.

Another spat between Harvey and Donna results in Donna storming out of his office. #Darvey looks increasingly like a distant memory as the weeks go on. Nevertheless, Donna’s words cause Harvey to have an epiphany during a meeting with Jeffrey and Esther, and though it means he has found the loop hole that can win them the case, he is unable to deliver the final blow.

Meanwhile, Mike puts Katrina in the corner, asking for information on Robert’s clients as he aims to expose potential foul play on his future father-in-law’s part (really, Mike!). Katrina withholds as much as she can but gives way to the sharpness of Mike’s wits. Mike quickly takes this information to Jessica.

Esther meets Harvey to confirm her divorce terms. After Harvey opens up about why he doesn’t like to deal with divorce cases, Esther agrees to sign 25% of her company over to Jeffrey. She then proceeds to take Harvey up on his earlier offer of breakfast and the two leave together.

Louis, unable to stay out of Harvey and Esther’s case as per Harvey’s original terms, discovers that Esther is signing more of her company over than the original agreement. He immediately (incorrectly) deduces that Harvey has “screwed” her (if only he knew) in an attempt to hit Louis’ family in the pocket, as he was similarly hit by Louis’ hand. After being confronted by Louis, Harvey tells him that the larger percent agreement was Esther’s decision, based on a desire to leave the past behind and move on without acrimony. Louis immediately storms out.

Mike and Robert are about to go at it over the conflict of interest that hangs over their case. However before the fireworks can kick off Queen Jessica enters and informs the two of them that she has in fact resolved the situation whilst saving Robert from breaking the law.

Esther later enters Harvey’s office and brings Louis’ gratitude before saying goodbye, An emotionally refreshed Harvey reaches out to both Louis and Donna before clocking out for the day, thanking Donna for 12 years of faithful service.

Maybe there is hope for #Darvey after all?

Unless someone finds out about Esther.

Suits airs Wednesdays at 9-10 p.m. ET on USA Network.
