'The Gifted' Season 2, Episode 4 'outMatched' Recap: Lines Crossed

After a short reunion with some of their former members, the Mutant Underground stops at nothing to stay on the Inner Circle’s trail. In this chapter, boundaries, both literal and moral, lose meaning. Love is a powerful emotion; so powerful that it could change the person of the most morality. Will The Gifted become the very type of persons they are trying to defeat?

In this week’s episode of The Gifted, the Mutant Underground desperately chases after the Inner Circle’s trail. In an attempt to bring Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) home, Caitlin (Amy Acker) and Reed (Stephen Moyer) Strucker coerce Graph (Adam David Thompson) to work with them. Meanwhile, John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung), Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale) and Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind) try to intercept the Inner Circle’s raid of a mental health facility.

Because of the intel they gathered, Thunderbird, Eclipse, and Blink go back to visit Wire to convince him to work with them once more. However, Graph shoots at them the moment Thunderbird reaches for the door. Wire got killed by the Frost sisters (Skyler Samuels), so Graph was their only hope. They bring him back to their hideout.

At first, Graph did not dare try to help them. However, Caitlin resorted to using his addiction to Kick, drugs that hackers like him are known to use. Caitlin brought him into immediate withdrawal by injecting him with a withdrawal-inducing chemical. As a result, Graph hacks into the hospital’s data cable, finding out that the Inner Circle is currently raiding the place.

Moments after they find out what the Inner Circle is doing, Blink, Thunderbird, Lauren, and Eclipse head to the Mental Health Facility, which, in reality, is a Mutant Detention Facility. With Graph’s help, they gain access to the facility’s security cameras. As Thunderbird and Blink enter the building, Lauren and Eclipse stand guard outside. Back at their hideout, someone on the other end blocks Graph from the system, but when Caitlin offers him Kick’s pharmaceutical counterpart, he gladly agrees to override their system.

Once Graph hacks back into their system, the security camera feed showed Andy, along with Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont). The duo is on their way to the building’s exit with an unidentified hooded mutant. Just as Thunderbird catches up to them, Polaris sets the imprisoned mutants free, causing a riot which forced Blink and Thunderbird to get the mutants out to safety.

With Blink and Thunderbird preoccupied, the task of intercepting the Inner Circle relied on Lauren and Eclipse. Eclipse was about to take their car down aggressively, but Lauren stops him and steps in, prompting Andy to go out. Since neither of them could convince the other to back down, they attack each other. Unfortunately, Andy throws both Lauren and Eclipse out of their way, knocking Lauren unconscious.

In the middle of the fight, Graph gets a heart attack. After Reed and Caitlin revive him, they receive ill news. Their team did not intercept the Inner Circle. Also, they have numerous patients of the facility to rescue. Lastly, Lauren is unconscious, and it was Andy who took her out. The couple could do nothing but try to comfort each other when suddenly, Reed’s powers start manifesting again.

The Purifiers

After Jace Turner’s (Coby Bell) humiliating attempt to get help from the police, he sat in his motel room, wondering what to do next. Moments later, he receives a call from one of the police officers, Officer Wilson (Tom O’Keefe). Officer Wilson invited him to discuss the things he mentioned at the police station with him.

Before Jace went to meet with Officer Wilson, he calls his wife, Paula Turner’s (Frances Turner) phone. However, Paula asks him to stop calling her before she ended their conversation. When Jace finally meets with Officer Wilson, he finds out that he is a member of The Purifiers, a mutant hate group. Jace reluctantly took Officer Wilson’s phone number. However, when the news about the Mutant Uprising went on air, he decides to give Wilson a call.

The Gifted continues on Tuesday, October 30th with ‘afterMath’ at 8/9c on Fox.
