'This Is Us' Season 2, Episode 6 'The 20's' Recap: Origin of Tess' Name, Kate Sleeps With A Married Guy, Miguel Connects With Rebecca [SPOILERS]

It’s Halloween for the latest episode of “This Is Us” Season 2. It’s entitled ‘The 20’s,’ where we find ourselves in a flashback episode with our cast. Kevin is clamoring his way in L.A., Kate still works at a cafe with her eyes set on her favorite customer, and Randall is a little jumpy after his nervous breakdown.

The Funny story behind Tess’ name

Like how Rebecca planned to name her kids with the letter K (as in K for Kevin, Kate, and Kyle), Randall wanted to pattern this with his kids. Initially, he wanted it to be letter ‘J’ for his dad, Jack. But because ‘things just come to you’ in “This Is Us,” we are again pleasantly surprised.
When Beth was pregnant with their first child, Randall was a little on edge. He couldn’t even fix the ceiling fan of the baby room—which left him even more upset. Later that evening just before Beth was due, Rebecca came over to visit. The two were very concerned over Randall’s state and couldn’t help but whisper a little too loudly for Randall to hear. He even volunteers to get a replacement for the ceiling fan to give them ample time to whisper loudly about him.

In the hardware store, Randall is approached by a store clerk, with a nametag that read ‘Ask me for help.’ Surprisingly, Randall opens up stiffly about his breakdown to this attending employee and reveals his dilemma of becoming a father. Wisely, the clerk tells him that the answers are gifts that will come with his baby.
“Tomorrow, you’ll have all the answers you need.” He tells Randall and hands him a flyer for their best ceiling fans. Soon on this flyer, Randall will read the name ‘Tessana.’ And the rest is history!

Kate and Kevin discover themselves in their 20’s

During their stages of adulting, the twins are stuck in a world where they look for the right feelings and the right job. Kevin finds himself trying a little too hard to land a role as an actor getting his name out there. Meanwhile, Kate walks a little carelessly into a one-night stand. This just goes to show how vulnerable Kate is during these times—that despite her correct inklings, she felt the need to just go with it. For the sake of feeling something that warms her.

Pearsons go trick or treating

Here’s another Pearson family bonding—trick or treating! But because kids are kids and they want their ways to be followed, the family find themselves split. Randall with Rebecca, and the rest with Jack. While Rebecca reveals to Randall about his adoption, Jack is out there making sure Kate’s heart doesn’t break from a little crush, and at the same time, keeping another eye out for Kevin who’s too busy getting a lot of candy before the night ends.

The episode concludes with Rebecca trying out her new Facebook account. After which, she receives a message from Miguel asking her how she’s doing. We all know there is little information about how the two came to be—but it looks as if this episode will be the start of that untold story. Jack’s death is still unsolved, and we are still wiping tears from our eyes.
“This Is Us” continues next Tuesday with “The Most Disappointed Man,” 9/10c on NBC.
