'This Is Us' Season 2: Everything That Went Down with the Big Three

In a few days, “This Is Us” Season 2 returns to our television with a brand new episode! Before the premiere, it’s all but proper to get a flashback of all the things that have been happening to the Big three in the previous episodes.
Here’s what we know so far:

Kevin Hits a New Low

On “This Is Us” Season 2 Episode 7’s fiasco, we watch as Number One drinks himself to oblivion. From failing to speak to Sophie with the right words to getting drunk in a high school alumni homecoming, Kevin (Justin Hartley) has definitely reached his most depressing state.

He even goes as far as sleeping with an old admirer, Charlotte Everly, and manages to lose his father’s pendant on her flat. But because he upsets her too, she doesn’t hear any of his pleads to get his necklace back. In contrast to this, flashbacks of his promising high school life were revealed. We find out about his football accident—the one that ultimately crushed his aspired football career.

Kate Learns to Move Forward

Like her mother Rebecca, Kate experiences a heart-wrenching loss with someone she hasn’t met yet—her child. After a random fall in their shower, Kate is rushed to the hospital, and her doctor announces a miscarriage—an incident Kate refuses to acknowledge at first. And as Toby picks up the pieces patiently, he can’t help but feel devastated by his loss as well. On this episode, Rebecca shows up at Kate’s door and opens her arms to catch her daughter in a much-needed embrace. Eventually, Kate learns to make the loss a lesson of love—appreciating Toby and her mother more. In the end, she and Toby decide to move on, and both plan to try again when she’s ready.

Randall Loses but Comes Back Up

Inside another Pearson household, another Pearson loses his daughter. But in a way where he needs to give her up—for her growth. Shauna, Deja’s mom, finally earns custody of her daughter while finding her way back on track. And Randall is stuck knowing Deja needs her biological mom more than she needs him. He flashes back to William’s (his biological father) decision to let him go in the Pearson household a long time ago. Randall decided it was best for him not to interfere. With the same resolution, he allows Deja go. So they say their tearful farewells and share their first embrace. But Randall isn’t giving up just yet, as he tells his wife Beth that he’s prepared to adopt another child, a boy this time.
“This Is Us” season 2 returns with the winter premiere, “The Fifth Wheel,” January 9th at 9/8c on NBC.
