'Titans' Season 1, Episode 4 'Doom Patrol' Recap: Experiments

Relying on the Nuns for protection turns out badly for the Titans. A new found friend brings safety and comfort, but also unknowingly walks them into danger. Meanwhile, the senior duo follows their trail, arriving just in time. The passage remains shut; at least, for now.

In this week’s episode of Titans, Gar Logan/Beastboy (Ryan Potter) brings Rachel Roth/Raven (Teagan Croft) to the safety of the Doom Patrol’s hideout. Meanwhile, Detective Dick Grayson/Robin (Brenton Thwaites) and Koriand’r/Starfire (Anna Diop) work together to follow Rachel’s trail.

Darkness

After checking the convent, Dick and Kory head to the local police station. The desk officer informs them about a report that matches Rachel’s description, where two hunters encounter a girl with purple hair and a green tiger. Because of this, Dick and Kory decide to question one of the hunters.

Upon arriving at the hunter’s house, the hunter denies Dick and Kory entry. As a result, Dick resorts to aggressive measures. However, Kory does not let him beat the man further as the man’s son watches them. Still, the man tells them about an abandoned mansion that Rachel could have possibly gone. On their way there, Kory tells Dick to deal with his issues before he explodes, just like Rachel.

Rachel fits right in when she meets the Doom Patrol. Cliff Steele/Robotman (Jake Michaels, voiced by Brendan Fraser) grows fond of Rachel easily, despite being against the idea of visitors at first. Larry Trainor/Negative Man (Dwain Murphy, voiced by Matt Bomer) instantly asks Rachel her food preferences as he cooked them dinner. During dinner, Rachel befriends Rita Farr/Elastiwoman (April Bowlby) by showing her acceptance. However, all of this changes when Dr. Niles Caulder, The Chief (Bruno Bichir) arrives.

After watching Rachel stabilize his patient’s condition, Dr. Caulder’s curiosity about her grows. Because of this, he asks her to undergo a few tests which he will conduct. Rachel reluctantly agrees, but as soon as the procedure begins, she tries to back out. Gar tries to remove her restraints, but Dr. Caulder tranquilizes him. Seeing this, the enraged Rachel manifests her powers. Luckily, Dick and Kory arrive just in time to stop her from opening a portal to the Underworld.

‘Titans’ Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Doom Patrol’ Final Verdict

This episode is slower paced compared to the others. Despite the absence of having much action, this chapter still made a good impression on the viewers by introducing the Doom Patrol. Also, their introduction generally covers the background information about them, so none of the viewers feel left out. Finally, we see the four Titans leaving the hideout together, something we have wanted since the beginning.

Titans continues on Friday, November 9th at the DC Streaming Service.
