Tupac Shakur Break Up Letter: What it says

TMZ first broke the report about Shakur’s letter to Madonna. Written on 15 January 1995 at 4 a.m. inside his prison cell, Tupac’s letter begins with an apology. The letter goes on saying that people might have perceived Madonna as “open and exciting” for being “seen with a black man.” However, that wasn’t the case for him. Shakur confessed, “I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.” Basically, he explains himself breaking up with her because she is white; they are not of the same race.

The controversial letter, besides being an apology and explanatory letter, is also a plea for reconciliation. He wrote that after their relationship’s downfall, he wanted a “stronger and more focused” friendship with Madonna. Recognizing how devastated she could be, he clarifies that he “never meant to hurt” her.

Being a thoughtful man painfully saying goodbye to his girl, Shakur warned Madonna to be careful, recognizing the world’s cruelty. He wrote, “Please be careful Madonna… There are those whose hearts bleed with envy and evil. They would not hesitate to do you harm!”

The letter ends by asking her if she could make time to visit him. “It’s funny but this experience has taught me to not take time for granted,” he said.
