TV REVIEW: Major Reveals in Agents of SHIELD's

By Felicia Kudronowicz

This week Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. left fans reeling from plot twists in the appropriately titled Turn, Turn, Turn.

Picking up right where we left things last week with Coulson pointing his stun gun on Agent May, we discover that SHIELD drone jets are chasing down Agent Garrett. Everything is in chaos and the whole episode is a mind game of trying to figure out who is who.

The team finds out that Hydra, a classic Marvel villain organization, has infiltrated SHIELD. Victoria Hand thinks it’s Coulson, Coulson thinks it’s Hand. No one knows exactly what’s going on. Coulson accuses May of being the Clairvoyant, but she tries to convince Coulson that she is actually communicating with Director Fury – not the Clairvoyant, Hydra or anyone else. It appears May has been was the real organizer of their little SHIELD team along along, claiming that Fury put her in charge of watching Coulson for potential side effects after coming back from the dead. Her story makes sense, but Coulson isn’t quick to see her side of the story.

While trying to prove herself, May calls Fury’s direct line, only to be informed of his death. This isn’t looking so good for her. Agent Garrett calls on the team for help and together they take down the drones tailing him. However, Victoria Hand is still actively pursuing the team and sends in agents to break into the plane and capture Coulson. But the team is thankfully one step ahead, managing to sneak into the Hub and not only rescue Simmons but find out who Hydra is, while Victoria’s gang search an empty plane.

Garrett is trying to convince Coulson to kill Victoria on sight, but inadvertently gives mention of  a specific detail concerning Rayna, a detail that only Coulson knows, which reveals that Garrett is the Clairvoyant. Saaaaay What?! Just moments ago they were fighting side by side, only to realize they were helping the enemy. More SHIELD agents come in but in an action packed sequence, we discover that half of them are actually Hydra agents who dispatch the SHIELD agents with ease … and the element of surprise. Luckily our SHIELD team strikes back and are able to get the upper hand. Even Fitz gets in on the battle this time around.

Things are starting to look up. Garrett is in custody and on his way to a SHIELD prison with Ward and Hand. The rest of the team is back on their plane getting ready to hide out, when BAM another twist in the plot is revealed when Ward suddenly shoots Victoria. It seems Ward, in the surprise of the season, is a sleeper agent for Hydra.

This episode was one of the best of the season, with a definite season finale vibe, despite the fact there are sill some episodes remaining. Is Ward really a willing Hydra agent or has he been brain-washed? Does he really love Skye, or has he been playing her, like the others all along?

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues Tuesday April 15 with “Providence,” replacing episodes of “The Goldbergs” (9:00-9:31 p.m.) and “Trophy Wife” (9:31-10:00 p.m.)
