TV REVIEW: Revenge’s “Meteor” Brings Near Reunion, Fresh Schemes

Tonight we got half of what we’ve been waiting for this season since we found out that David Clarke is alive. Emily along with everyone else in town finds out he’s alive. Finally! But of course there’s no big happy Clarke reunion. This is Revenge, people.

“Meteor” picks up right where we left off last week with Emily and Nolan talking about that pesky break in. Nolan, in typical Nolan fashion, is more upset than Ems. “You could have been killed. He was not after your stash of vintage Cartier. He wanted blood.”

They think it was Victoria’s dirty work, duh. “My move now,” says Emily. Nolan wants to “tag out, and call the police.” Emily says no way, Charlotte might be involved and she’s not throwing her to the cops.

“How many spins on the murder wheel does she get?” Nolan asks.“You do know that the hoodie is not a bulletproof vest and that you can die? Yes, you hurt Charlotte but don’t repay her with your life.” Nolan is the voice of reason in “Meteor.” Now if only Emily would listen.

One Messed Up Daddy

David shows up creepier than ever and hurt from his Emily excursion. “Did you kill her?” Victoria asks, barely able to contain her excitement. David says he couldn’t and Victoria looks mighty disappointed in her man. “Let me take care of things,” she says. “Get some rest, my love.” He seems fine with that. Well, fine, if your definition includes self-mutilation for pleasure.

He limps around the cabin with scary music playing, grabs a chain and starts whipping his back, drawing blood like a scene straight out of The DaVinci Code – think Silas meets Grizzly Adams. What could have possibly happened to you over the past twenty years that warrants that?

Emily is locked and loaded ready to track down her night time visitor, but guess who shows up? Cop tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Oh Nolan, you are going to pay for that. Snitching behind Emily’s back. Jack says “You’re in danger. Just let me do my job.” He also warns Emily that if Victoria turns up hurt or worse “I will arrest you.” He’s taking that cop thing seriously.

What’s Your Game, Red?

Louise, Victoria’s redheaded roomie from the loony bin, shows up again tonight, working her Daniel and Victoria angles. Danny’s trying to get hired as her financial advisor. She obviously needs financial assistance, but she’s also hoping for a little Daniel assist in the bedroom, perhaps. Subtlety is not one of her strong points.

Louise shows up in a white bikini to flirt with Daniel who’s working poolside, where he’s most productive, just one umbrella’d drink no more than two minutes away. She says, “Tell me about your mother.” He blabs with Louise saying she never meant anything to her mama. She even put a hex on her once so she’d care. “Did it work?” asks Daniel.

“No, nothing can fix the devil.” Aw, they have something in common! Daniel asks the million dollar question, the one we all want to ask… “What do you want?” She hands him some sunscreen, undoes her top, and says, “Need to know you have my back.” No, that’s not what he/we meant. What’s your game, Red? No answers tonight, just further confirmation she’s up to something when she shows up in Daniel’s room later to celebrate their “new partnership.”

She tells him, “If you just ask the universe for something, most of the time it will land in your lap. Oh, I have something for you. Close your eyes.” She hands him a box with boxers or Speedos or something undergarmenty in it. I’d watch your back, Daniel, Louise seems to want to do the landing in this lap.

The Gig Is Up, David

In the bonehead move of the night, David tries to shoplift from a hardware store and gets busted by three cops. Wow, that place has security! It is the mistake that leads to the outing of an alive David Clarke, so we’ll forgive it.

Super cop Ben sees the bearded thief at the station and calls Emily thinking there may be a connection because… well, there’s a connection.

At the lineup, Jack sees David Clarke and freaks out. Emily shows up next to take a look and … her turn to freak out and cry.

Emily is doubled over with shock, pain, disbelief when Nolan shows up. “My father, he’s alive!” For the first time in all 4 Revenge seasons, Nolan is speechless. Yes, Nolan stutters, no comeback, no witty retort, just a shocked, bumbling Nolan.

Jack shows up saying it’s true. “I need to see him,” Emily says, but Nolan says it’s not the right time. Ben agrees shooing her away, so no daddy/daughter reunion yet.

Where the Hell Have You Been?

Victoria is called to the station with the chief of police breaking the David Clarke news to her. She acts a little shocked, but not so shocked she can’t lawyer him up. He finally makes his statement, saying that Conrad Grayson faked his death and locked him up for years. He was tortured to crush any hope he had.

Back at her place, Emily tells Nolan, “After I lost my dad, all I wished for was to see my dad.”

Nolan says, “Your wish came true.” They’re watching a press conference when the chief comes on to tell the Conrad Grayson kidnapping scheme.

“I should have killed Conrad myself. I need to see my dad here tonight,” Emily says, not able to wait one more minute.

Victoria gets David alone and says that man in the interrogation room was the man I fell in love with.

David says, “When I was locked away I analyzed everything, even you. Remember when I wanted to leave years ago, you said ‘I’ll take care of things.’ You said that this morning.” He says he won’t be anyone’s prisoner anymore. Not even hers.”

She’s workin’ it all night, trying to gain David’s trust. “You still need me David, and I will always need you,” she tells him.

A Clarke Family Reunion

Charlotte confronts mom about all the lies, as if that’s a new thing. “You turned the reunion with my father all about destroying Emily.” She says she wants a relationship with dad. Wait, I thought she was on board with the destroying Ems last week? So now that’s off?

Jack is back in the locker room with Ben, fully clothed this time. Jack says he needs to leave. “I’m not ready to see him” or apparently to be confronted in the locker room anymore.

One person ready to finally see Clarke is Emily She shows up just as David is being released. He dramatically walks out to face the press. “I prayed for this moment,” he begins.

He turns around and asks Victoria and Charlotte to join him from the wings. What a happy family picture. I’m thinking Christmas card 2014.

“Victoria and I are focused on the future,” says Clarke. Queen V takes over the press conference (of course) and asks for privacy as David is reunited with his family.

Emily gets that look of total hoodie horror, the one where we think she’s going to Sharpie all over Victoria’s face.

“What just happened?” asks Nolan.

“She got to him first,” answers Emily, and BAM the daddy/daughter reunion remains only half fulfilled. No David freak out session tonight when he discovers his little one is alive.

So who can’t wait to see David’s reaction to the news that his baby girl Amanda is alive and well, scheming through the guise of Emily Thorne? So much has changed the stratosphere of Revenge this year all leading to a David/Emily collaboration, right? Is it coming next week? Do you think we’ll see them join forces or stay on opposite ends of their own revengenda thanks to the maneuvers of Victoria?

See you back here next week for the full daddy/daughter reunion (fingers crossed) because who can stay away from this sick, twisty Sunday night treat?

Revenge airs Sundays on NBC at 10 pm.
