House of the Dragon Announces Premiere Date

We’ve been getting teases for House of the Dragon for months, but now we can put all that speculation to rest.

As per the official House of the Dragon account on Twitter, the Game of Thrones spinoff is set to premiere on HBO Max this August 21. Check it out:

The announcement doesn’t stop at the release date either. We also have several new character posters featuring key players in the show. While we have a lot of Targaryens, we also see some characters from House Hightower as well as House Velaryon.

Take not that this is a prequel to Game of Thrones, and the events of this book hundreds of years before the War of the Five Kings. This particular series is based on the spinoff book Fire and Blood, and will focus on the story of the Targaryen Civil War which has been dubbed The Dance of Dragons.

Though the show focuses on the Targaryens, we should also get to see the much earlier days of some of the old houses. While a house like the Starks has been around for the creation of the Wall, I think we could see some earlier forms of the Lannisters before they became known for their ridiculous wealth. I’d definitely love to see House Mormont in the height of their powers.

Game of Thrones may have ended poorly to many fans, but the world of Westeros continues to be an endless place for stories and lore. Catch House of the Dragon when it premieres on Aug. 21 on HBO Max.
