Welcome to Derry: IT Prequel Series Reportedly in the Works

The IT reboot had managed to give a whole new generation of audiences a fear of clowns, but it looks like Pennywise could be here to stay for a bit longer.

As per The Ankler, HBO Max is currently developing a prequel to the IT series tentatively titled Welcome to Derry. The show is said to be exploring the origins of Pennywise the Clown and will explore as to why he has his 27-year curse in this small town in Maine.

For now, it unclear whether the series has been greenlit, but the source is sure enough that a writer’s room is being put together for the series.

Though the books reveal that Pennywise is alien in origin, that was kept a mystery in the films in order to keep audiences on their toes about his origin story. If anything, there is said to be a deleted scene from the film that takes place in the 1600s, and it has Pennywise striking a horrific deal with a woman so he can eat her child.

This is the alleged scene that was written, but not shot:

It hasn’t been officially confirmed by anyone from the cast, but no one has denied it either, so a lot of fans think that this scene could actually be a real concept from the script that wasn’t shot.

With the movies being pretty straightforward, it would be great if we could get a series that plays around more with the idea of Pennywise. I don’t know how long it would last, but if they can make a Psycho prequel, they can make one for IT.

The IT prequel has not been officially announced.
