New 'The Equalizer 2' Trailer Triggers Serious 'Hitman' Vibes

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the new trailer for The Equalizer 2 (starring Denzel Washington) brought another exciting “calm assassin” feel to those who loved the first movie. The Equalizer followed the story of Washington’s Robert McCall, who “equalizes” criminals for the faults they have committed against the innocent, therefore giving hope to the victims. Now, in the new trailer, The Equalizer 2 shows fans a new direction that strays far from the first film’s story but still has that “tick-tock boom” vibe to it.

New Job

The Equalizer 2 trailer starts off with Robert working as a driver for locals of the city. One night, a lady passenger was handed to him drugged and half naked by a man in corporate attire. As always Robert “the taxi driver” went back to interrogate the group who handed him the drugged passenger and ticked his watch to count how many seconds it’s going to take him to beat the group up: giving viewers a glimpse of how the Sequel is going to be—fast and equalized.

A Friend In Need

The new trailer also showed characters from the prequel, one of them is Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo), one of Robert’s informants. Eventually, The Equalizer 2 trailer then shows us that Susan will die, giving Robert a reason to avenge her friend by hunting down her suspected killers—a Russian terrorist group. We can expect the sequel’s narrative to revolve around Robert’s goal to smoke out the terrorist group as it also shows him linking up with Pedro Pascal’s character (an investigator? FBI dude?), telling Robert how dangerous the task is.

Who’s The New Guy?

The new trailer also introduces a fresh face, played by Ashton Sanders. Assuming that he’s Robert’s new friend, details about Sanders’ character are unclear. The brief clip shows Sanders as Robert’s close friend, but it also seems to imply that he might even turn out to be a victim towards the end of the movie. Here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen!

If you’ve seen the first Equalizer movie, then this sequel is something worth catching on to. With the teaser trailer leaving viewers wanting more, it’s a sure Hitman grab for all you action junkies out there.

The Equalizer 2 hits theaters July 20th.
