Production has Begun for Our Flag Means Death Season 2

One surprise hit this year from HBO Max is the very LGBTQ+ series Our Flag Means Death, and fans were excited when a second season was announced last Pride Month. Now showrunner David Jenkins has confirmed that production has finally started for OFMG 2.

Here’s Jenkins’ post:

We don’t have an official synopsis for the second season yet, but the first season did end with Ed (Taika Waititi) further embracing his Blackbeard persona after Stede (Rhys Darby) decided too late that he wanted to stay a pirate after all.

We should expect Stede to try and repair the relationship moving forward, and I think that’s going to be the main arc of the characters for the second season. Besides them, there are also multiple other couples from the show that we have to update on.

Our Flag Means Death started out as a pretty clumsy pirate comedy, but toward the end, fans found themselves watching a pretty straight-forward romantic comedy between fictionalized versions of very real pirates. The series has been praised for actually pursuing gay romances in lieu of ‘gay baiting’ and I have to say, the chemistry between Waititi and Darby is just fun to watch.

The second season of Our Flag Means Death has no release date yet, but we should expect the series to come out sometime in 2023. In the meantime, you can watch the complete first season now streaming on HBO Max.
