'Sharp Objects' Season 1, Episode 7 'Falling' Recap: The Arrest

The protagonist wakes up the next day after getting wasted the previous night. Unknown to the residents, today is a fateful day for them. Finally, the suspect for the girls’ murder, now identified, faces charges. While this may be a massive development as it sounds, not everyone in the town focuses interest on this. The sequence of events finally draws to a close, ending Sharp Objects‘ story.

In this week’s episode of Sharp Objects, Wind Gap’s Police Force arrests John Keene (Taylor John Smith), charging him with the murder of Ann Nash and Natalie Keene. Meanwhile, Detective Richard Willis (Chris Messina) conducts an investigation of Camille Preaker’s (Amy Adams) troubled past.

John knew that the police are after him. It was only a matter of time before his girlfriend, Ashley Wheeler (Madison Davenport) gave him up to the cops. Eventually, Chief Bill Vickery (Matt Craven) and his men come up to Ashley’s house with a search warrant. However, John was not there. Still, the police found something incriminating: Natalie’s blood, stained on the floor under John’s bed. Ashley shows this to them, focused on the appeal of becoming famous.

Camille drove by Ashley’s house. Seeing the commotion, she decides to follow after John’s trail. Camille finds John in a house-turned-bar outside of town. As John enjoys his last drink before being locked up in prison, Camille joins him, hoping to come up with something for her next article. As the day progressed, Camille received more than what she needed; Camille even has sex with John right before the cops arrive and arrest him.

Background Check

On a previous encounter, Jackie O’Neill (Elizabeth Perkins) gave Richard information about Camille and her family. This information led to Richard’s investigation. Richard finds himself facing files that held questionable information. Also, the nurse who kept the record got suspiciously transferred to a far-flung hospital for malpractice. A lot of things are wrong about the case, which led Richard to a strange revelation.

Despite the lead on the murder case, Detective Willis manages to scrounge some time to do a personal investigation of Camille and her family. What he finds is astonishing. Marian Preaker’s medical reports had different diagnoses each time she went to a doctor. Also, Marian never went to the same doctor. The other strange thing about the records is that Jackie had numerous denied inquiries on Marian’s files.

When Richard reads Amma Crellin’s (Eliza Scanlen) files, the records are far more complicated compared to Marian’s case. Amma had numerous visits to the hospital due to strange illnesses, often deadly. Richard realizes that the nurse is right. Adora Crellin (Patricia Clarkson) has Munchausen by Proxy: a mental disorder that made her, the caregiver, make her patient sick on purpose so she could take care of the patient. Richard needed to let Camille know about what he found out.

Amma likes having Adora take care of her.  Every time Amma got sick, Adora takes care of her and prepares a strange kind of medicine for Amma. Adora made the same medication for Marian when she was still alive. Also, Adora attempted to give this to Camille, but she refused to take it, both in the past and the present. Based on Richard’s findings, we know that this substance that Adora made causes the girls to feel ill.

After a brief argument with Richard, Camille left the motel. She finds Marian’s files inside her car. As she makes a shocking discovery over what she read, Camille immediately visits Jackie, who confirms that she knew what Adora was doing. Amma is next, and it is now up to Camille to save her.

Sharp Objects continues next Sunday, August 26th, with “Milk” at 9/8c on HBO.
