The Idol: Watch Teaser for New Series from The Weeknd and Euphoria Creator

Euphoria is no doubt one of the biggest shows on HBO right now, and while we all wait for the next season, HBO has revealed the next show from creator Sam Levinson and The Weeknd (a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye).

Watch the teaser for The Idol starring Lily-Rose Depp:

While we don’t have a full synopsis of the series yet, the teaser does say that The Idol will be the ‘sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood’. The show also comes with the tagline:

A self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult(Tesfaye) enters a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol (Depp).

Executive VP of HBO drama programming Francesca Orsi said in a statement (via Elle):

“When the multi-talented Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us The Idol, it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before… Shortly after, the brilliant duo of Joe Epstein and Amy Seimetz joined forces with the rest of the team, and this dream became a reality.”

If you’ve checked out Levinson’s Euphoria, you’ll know that he has a penchant for some very imaginative shots, and the show feels like a mix of arthouse movie with a high-school romance plot (not to mention the immersive music). The Idol looks like more of the same, but this time, we’ll actually be following a story of adults—rather than some very horny kids.

The Idol has no specific release date yet, but the show will probably hit HBO Max sometime within the year. In the meantime, you can check out Levinson’s Euphoria now available on streaming.
