White House Plumbers Trailer Delves Into the Watergate Scandal

Veep has been lauded for its elevation of the political comedy genre, and the same writers behind the show are going to be tackling the real-life Watergate scandal that took down President Richard Nixon.

The limited series is set to premiere in May, and we have a new trailer starring Justin Theroux, Woody Harrelson, and more. Check this out:

The official description reads:

WHITE HOUSE PLUMBERS takes the audience behind-the-scenes of the Watergate scandal as Nixon’s political saboteurs, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, accidentally topple the presidency they were zealously trying to protect… and their families along with it.

Chronicling actions on the ground, this satirical drama begins in 1971 when the White House hires Hunt and Liddy, former CIA and FBI, respectively, to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak. After failing upward, the unlikely pair lands on the Committee to Re-Elect the President, plotting several unbelievable covert ops – including bugging the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate complex. Proving that history can sometimes be stranger than fiction, WHITE HOUSE PLUMBERS sheds light on the lesser-known series of events that led to one of America’s greatest political crimes.

The show is actually based on Integrity, a 2007 bok from Egil and Matthew Krogh. The series was created by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, who have both worked on Veep—and that series’ showrunner David Mandel will be directing all five episodes of Plumbers.

With the scandal being one of the biggest in history, it’s going to be interesting to see the story unfold through a comedy perspective. Catch White House Plumbers when it premieres on HBO Max on May 1.
