5 Things to Know About Bones 200th Episode

Bones is doing something really special for its 200th and we’re all invited!

Thursday’s episode will see the team reimagined as characters from a 1950’s action movie as the show offers up a unique stand-alone episode that gives fans the opportunity to see Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) meet again for the very first time.

In “The 200th in the 10th” Temperance Brennan, an ambitious and talented female detective, seizes an opportunity to push the glass ceiling when a murder points to Seeley Booth, a famous jewel thief. The only thing is, it looks like he didn’t do it and she knows it. If Brennan can persuade Booth to help her crack the case, they might both just get what they’re looking for.

We’ve seen the episode a little earlier than most, thanks to our friends at FOX, and have assembled a list of interesting tidbits on Thursday’s installment. As usual, we don’t set out to outright spoil anyone with our articles so don’t expect any major plot reveals as you read. We want you to enjoy it as much as we did.

1. A Perfect Episode?

What’s your favorite episode of Bones? Why did you love it? It’s hard to pick just one from the show’s impressive gallery of 200 episodes isn’t it? Although we have a feeling “The 200th in the 10th” may make an appearance many fans’ top 5 lists.

The stops have definitely been pulled for this one, as Bones serves up a stand-alone Hitchcock style episode steeped in Hollywood glamor, witty repartee, (the script is faithfully loaded with all the double entendres of the time) a pitch-perfect musical score and the chance to see Brennan and Booth do it all again for the first time. There’s very little not to love here.

2. Sign of the Times

The 200th sees Temperance Brennan struggling to prove herself as a detective in a male dominated landscape where women are maids, stenographers, lounge singers or background dressing to be commented upon by whatever man happens to be dominating the conversation at the time. As jarring as it may be to see our favorite smart, capable women reduced to these roles, there’s something to be said for a faithful recreation of the movies of the time, (And if you’re still unsure on that point, go check out Hitchcock’s North By Northwest or To Catch a Thief, two movies which receive a loving nod over the course of the hour). Moreover the show, which has always been essentially female-led anyway, highlights the struggle to be seen as something more.

3. Holmes and Watson

TJ Thyne puts in the performance of the week as a professor Hodgins, a bookish palaeontologist who considers trading his beloved dinosaur bones for human remains when presented with a tempting offer from Brennan. Professor Hodgins’ partner in dino remains is Eugene Byrd’s Doctor Clarke Edison, a man with an eye for detail who is quite taken by the potential of this new offer. Could this be the beginning of a beautiful sleuthing, crime-solving  partnership? Sound a little like another famous sleuthing duo? Hodgins and Clarke think so too!

4. Signature Appearances

Hitchcock was famous for making a signature appearance in each of his movies and Bones’ 200th is no different. Look out for a wealth of cameos from the creepy to the comic. There’s a parade of recognizable faces (and one or two heavily disguised ones) to keep long term fans chuckling throughout.

5. Darling

When we mentioned over Twitter earlier last week that we would be charting to Bones bosses Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan this week about the show’s latest milestone, we were surprised by the number of people who asked us to inquire if there are any upcoming ‘B&B’ episodes in the pipeline. Of course, as any self respecting Bones fan knows ‘B&B’ is shorthand for ‘Sexy Time for Brennan and Booth.’ Although we can’t promise sexy time (it’s set in the 1950’s and we’re fairly sure sex wasn’t invented until at least the 1960’s) this episode is most definitely Brennan and Booth centric. Expect romance, witty repartee and bucket loads of chemistry. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly have nothing on these two.

Bones 200th episode “The 200th in the 10th” airs Thursday, Dec. 11 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

(Oh and we’ll have our interview with Hart and Stephen a little later this week too, so don’t forget to drop back, tell a friend and as always watch live.)
