13 Things To Know About Sleepy Hollow's Season Two Premiere

Last winter breakout hit Sleepy Hollow delivered one of the most mind warping finales of the television season.

Since then, fans have been eagerly counting down the days until its return, trying — surely like us — not to lose their heads during the hiatus. Luckily the wait is almost over as this Monday Sleepy Hollow is back to properly mess with our heads once again.

The season one finale saw Abbie, Ichabod and the rest of their rag tag crew making some big sacrifices in the hope of putting an end to the oncoming apocalypse. The ultimate goal of springing Katrina from Purgatory was achieved, but her freedom came at great cost. The move revealed not one, but two centuries long bitter henchmen eager to get back at Ichabod. One of whom was Henry, or as we later learned Jeremy, Ichabod’s long thought-to-be-dead son aka the Horseman of War.

This also left Abbie locked in Purgatory, Ichabod bound in a box, Jenny possibly dead, Katrina kidnapped, and Frank on his way to jail. Once a few steps ahead, our heroes found that they were miles behind in a race they simply can’t lose.

Sleepy Hollow officially returns on September 22, but we’ve seen this rather spirited episode a little earlier than most, thanks to our friends at FOX. We’ve been asked not to reveal major plot points, however, before “This Is War” launches us back into a world of headless harbingers of the apocalypse and secret founding father societies, ScreenSpy’s got thirteen teases that will get you (even more) excited about what the season two premiere has in store.

1. “This Is War” begins and ends in fire.

The first instance will make you smile, the second makes Henry smile. And that’s all we’re gonna say about that.

2. Our favorite duo has upped their game.

Season two starts similarly to last Fall’s premiere: fish out of water jokes and a slew of battle sequences. This time around though, Ichabod and Abbie are badder in all the right ways. Not only should you expect our duo to be smarter and brawnier, but if they do share any hugs they have reached a new level of epic. Oh, and the two may or may not have that cool striding in slow motion thing down.

3. Not even time (or dimensions) can separate them.

Speaking of Abbie and Ichabod, the episode wastes no time playing on the great chemistry between them. No matter how you like your Ichabbie we swear on zombie George Washington’s grave that you’ll be warmed in all the right places.

4. A lot of questions are answered about Purgatory’s role.

Perhaps one of the premiere’s best gifts is how the writers chose to tackle Abbie’s time in the other dimension. Expect to have quite a few scenes there and to have answers to many of our biggest questions about how the show will move forward with our witnesses separated.

5. The afterlife has a lot of familiar faces, but not everyone can be trusted.

You’ll find yourself on more than one occasion feeling a bit too trusting of those Abbie finds in Purgatory. Stay alert. The mind and eye are known for playing tricks. On Abbie, on Ichabod and on us.

6. This is the team. Correction: Almost all of the team.

If you were concerned about whether we’d see how the rest of the A (for apocalypse) Team fared after the finale you’re in luck. Everyone’s fate, save that of two great looking faces, will be addressed in one way or another during the premiere.

7. Death is entirely contextual.

We can tell you people are dead. What we can’t tell you is for how long and in what way. But there’s a lot of dead people.

8. Pairing sharing is definitely caring.

An awesome team up we’ve seen before makes a reappearance and it’s even more awesome(r?) the second time around. They make a rather “smashing” couple, though it’s pretty clear who’s in the drivers seat of this relationship.

9. Villains don’t seem quite so villiany.

Abbie and Katrina will come face to face with the men whose hearts were set on them, but whose hearts are also being controlled by Moloch — a little reality that has consistently made them jerky creeps. The premiere sees one begin a path of redemption while the other gets a makeover.

10. Nicknames never sounded so good.

You probably laugh at the way Ichabod pronounces lieutenant, but we can assure you you’ll never appreciate how he says it more than in “This Is War.”

11. Where in time is Ichabod Crane?

The series keeps up its tradition of putting Ichabod Crane at the scene of nearly every major moment in early American History. In fact, it’s how we meet one of this season’s most anticipated characters in the flesh. Literally.

12. Things have changed, you’ll see.

Moloch has really got a solid game plan. Despite being trapped in Purgatory, Abbie likes to have one too. You’ll see our second witness attempting to stay two steps ahead while also trying to get out of that wretched place. She is a hero after all, and so this mission will once again force Abbie to choose between herself and the fate of the world. Just don’t expect this time to have the same outcome.

13. No one throws a reunion quite like Sleepy Hollow.

There are A LOT of them and they’ll all be different. Expect sneers, cheers and tears. In that order.
