A Star Wars Fan Edited the Entire Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Into a 2-Hour Movie
Published 2 years ago
Before Disney+ Star Wars series were even a thing, Lucasfilm was said to have planned an entire trilogy of films focused on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. That idea turned into the Kenobi series, but a fan had decided to take the first season, and turn it into one, full-length film.
On the site is also a bunch of answers to frequently asked questions about the edit, and Patterson writes:
“The ‘Obi-Wan’ show, in my opinion, suffered from things that were easily fixable in the script and in the edit… Awkward pacing, whole scenes that ultimately amounted to nothing, goofy dialogue and directing choices, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and change what I could. I want to be very clear, this is my own artistic interpretation of how these scenes could be strung together to make something that works better for me personally.”
I can already imagine Disney trying to take this whole fan edit down, but you can find several kinds of personal movie edits online—and not just for Star Wars. There have been several attempts to ‘fix’ Star Wars: A New Hope from restoring the original cut, to fixing production mistakes. There are also fans who took the Hobbit trilogy and edited into one long movie, accurate to Tolkien’s book.
Personally, I would have loved for Kenobi to be a film—which was the original intent—but with Lucasfilm moving on to the streaming format, it could be a while before we get Star Wars back on the big screen. At least this is the closest we can get to the original intention for Kenobi.
