David Ayer's Fantasy/Adventure Cop Film 'Bright' Gets First Official Trailer On Netflix

The first full trailer for David Ayer’s fantasy/adventure film, “Bright,” has just been released. Based on a script by Max Landis (which Ayer also rewrote), the film is described as “a contemporary cop thriller, but with fantastical elements.” Coming out as one of Netflix’s growing roster of original movies, “Bright” has a budget of $90 million. Right now, it’ scheduled for release in Netflix’s catalog, but the streaming service is also considering a theatrical release for the film.

Will Smith stars as human police officer Scott Ward and Joel Edgerton as the first Orc cop, Nick Jakoby. “Bright” follows their story as they embark on a ride to retrieve a mysterious ancient relic which is a hot item for everyone in their world. In this universe, both humans and mythical creatures exist with each other. However, the fate of their world is in Scott and Nick’s hands, and it’s all dependent on their mission to acquire the ancient relic.

Aside from Scott and Nick, they will be joined by Tika (Lucy Fry), Captain Perez (Andrea Navedo), Dorghu (Brad William Henke), Serafin (Alex Meraz) and Gary Harmeyer (Ike Barinholtz) in the adventure. Matt Gerald and Enrique Murciano also joins the cast in unspecified roles.

Setting The Bar High For Netflix’s ‘Bright’

“Bright” is Ayer’s next directorial effort after last year’s “Suicide Squad,” reuniting him with Smith and Barinholtz who also starred in the movie as Deadshot and Griggs, respectively.

Ayer has been doing cop films for a while now. “End of Watch” and “Street Kings” are among the director’s films, so expectations for Netflix’s “Bright” is high given the fantasy themes that it entails. While last year’s “Suicide Squad” was a commercial success, it was panned by critics. Given how “Suicide Squad” was a studio-controlled film, it’s also possible that Netflix has given Ayer more creative freedom in doing “Bright,” to avoid the controversy that surrounded “Suicide Squad.”

“Bright” arrives on Netflix in December. Watch the trailer below:
