Deleted Scene from GOTG Vol. 2 Confirms Mantis is Star-Lord’s Sister
Published 1 year ago
We had met Pom Klementieff’s Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and ever since, she has been a fan-favorite, having some of the best lines with every appearance from Infinity War to Love and Thunder. What’s interesting is, there’s actually a huge connection between her and Star-Lord, and it’s revealed in a deleted scene from GOTG Vol. 2.
In a recent episode of Marvel Studios: Legends (via The Direct), a deleted scene from GOTG Vol. 2 has Mantis reveal that she is Ego’s daughter—making her Peter Quill’s step-sister. Here’s the reveal:
Drax: “Why don’t you want me to tell him?”
Drax: “He should know you are his sister.”
Mantis: “Our only connection is the source of his greatest shame. I think not.”
We don’t know why they would decide to cut this scene, but I guess they didn’t want to take any emotion away from the death of Yondu. As for the question that maybe this could have been explored in Guardians Vol. 3, I think this reveal, though big, is not big enough; and it could be saved for something like The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+.
Then again, I’m just speculating. There has to be a reason why Mantis and Drax would be going solo on Earth to find a gift for Quill. Maybe it’s because Mantis wanted to reveal that she was Quill’s sister via an extravagant Christmas gift?
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to come to Disney+ on Nov. 25.
