Development for The Batman Sequel is Now Underway

The hype surrounding the release of The Batman was insane, and the movie was able to exceed expectations when it was finally released last month. Good news for Battinson, fans—we’re officially getting more.

As per Variety, a sequel to The Batman has already been greenlit and Robert Pattinson is signed on to reprise the role of Gotham’s Caped Crusader. During a presentation, director Matt Reeves announced that he will be writing and directing the follow-up—which is yet to get a release date.

While The Batman wasn’t an origin story for the Dark Knight, it did serve as some kind of origin for his villains. Besides the Riddler, we have Gotham in the middle of a power vacuum, and it’s likely characters like the Penguin will be grabbing for it. Not to mention we also have a deleted scene with what Reeves has called an early version of the Joker.

Fans are already wondering which villains Reeves could bring into the next film. With characters like Catwoman, Penguin, and the Riddler all making their debut in the same movie, maybe we could have a multiple-villain introduction in the sequel as well.

Reeves has mentioned Mister Freeze before, but fans are hoping we can get some of the more obscure villains like Hugo Strange or the Mad Hatter. I would still love to see a black Two-Face, seeing as Billy Dee Williams never got to play him for Tim Burton’s version of Batman. Rumors were going around that Pattinson’s Tenet co-star John David Washington was cast as Harvey Dent, but that didn’t turn out to be true. I’d love to watch them share the screen again, though.

The Batman is now showing in theaters and on HBO Max.
