Doctor Who: Ncuti Gatwa Interviews His New Companion Millie Gibson

Though companions and Doctors may often overlap in Doctor Who, a new Doctor is usually paired with a  new companion with every regeneration. With Ncuti Gatwa expected to take on the role of the Doctor after Jodie Whittaker, we now have a new video showing of Gatwa’s new companion in the form of actress Millie Gibson.

Watch this:

According to EW, Gibson’s character is named Ruby Sunday, and will make her debut sometime in the 2023 Christmas season. Gibson said in a statement:

“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honored to be cast as the Doctor’s companion… It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me. And what better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, new Doctor Gatwa says about Gibson:

“Millie just is the companion… She is full of talent, strength, she has a cheeky sparkle in her eye and is sharp as a razor. From the moment she walked into the room she captured all of our attention with her effervescence and then solidified that attention with the sheer torque of her talent. This adventure is going to be so wild and so fun, I cannot wait to sail the universe with Millie!”

For now, the show is currently keeping fans in suspense by bringing back David Tennant’s Doctor without any real explanation. Surely Tennant’s rueturn will only be for a short while, with his arc building up to the arrival of Gatwa as the new Timelord.

Doctor Who returns to The BBC next year.
