Fairy Tales Go Wrong in New Trailer for Disenchanted

The first Enchanted movie had Amy Adams play a Disney Princess overflowing with optimism, but now the tables are turning for Giselle of Andalasia with the upcoming sequel Disenchanted. The film is set to premiere later this month, and we have a new trailer which has Giselle wishing for a fairy tale world, but not realizing the consequences.

Watch this:

The story essentially turns the story of Giselle around. Though she was the young, positive princess in the first movie, it seems that she’s become the very thing that hate those princesses— a manipulative, middle-aged woman.

It’s actually  a pretty fun twist on the story, and it kind of allows the film to keep poking at the Disney princess genre without having to re-tread everything they did in the first movie. I mean, the fact that Pip had to be turned into a fat cat totally fits into the stereotype that Disney villains usually have a spoiled pet (usually a cat) at their side.

I’ll admit, the fact that the movie is releasing on streaming kind of makes it feel like Disney doesn’t have that much faith in the project, but the Chip ‘n Dale movie was fantastic, and I’m hoping that it manages to get the attention it deserves in time; same goes for Disenchanted.

It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.

Disenchanted premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 18.
