Hayden Christensen Binged The Clone Wars to Prep for Star Wars Return

It’s been more than ten years since the release of Revenge of the Sith, but Hayden Christensen will be making his Star Wars return with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. Since it has been a while since he was Anakin Skywalker, Christensen talks about his prep for coming back to the role of the fallen Jedi.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Christensen reveals that he actually binged the animated Clone Wars and Rebels to get up to speed with the world of Star Wars again. He says:

“It was interesting… They did a lot with these characters in those shows. And they did further explore the relationship. There was interesting stuff there to learn about. It was great fun getting to go back and re-immerse yourself in this world that just continues to grow and become more and more vast.”

Though Anakin’s arc is pretty clear in the movies, we get to see a lot of his character development in the series as well. Probably the most important relationship Anakin had in The Clone Wars was with his padawan Ahsoka, and fans are hoping we’ll actually get to see some of that play out in live-action when it comes to the Kenobi series.

While it is great that Christensen is getting into the expanded universe material, I hope that Kenobi has enough of its own original content to tell a satisfying story. I mean, I love fanservice as well, but when too much of the story starts to depend on it (like in The Book of Boba Fett), I just start rolling my eyes. Hopefully director Deborah Chow has learned from the previous Disney+ shows.

Catch Obi-Wan Kenobi when it premieres on Disney+ on May 27.
